| | Posted: | | | | When adding profiles for an entire season of a TV series, where do people get the information for the cast credits for each episode? Do people actually pause the credits at the end of each and every episode and write the information down? This is how I would do it for a movie profile but could not imagine doing it for an entire TV series.
Can the information be obtained from the internet? There are plenty of websites like Wikipedia - I already know that IMDB is off limits - that provide detailed descriptions of each episode along with a list of cast members by episode. Can that information be used?

Thanks. It's not as complicated as it sounds. Of course it depends on the show, but on average I'd say you have about 5 guest actors per episode plus the regulars. The regulars you can just copy and paste under each episode divider which leaves you with about 110 (22 * 5) actors for the entire season. Some movies have cast lists that also expand well beyond 50 names. So basically 1 season only equals 2 movies. If you use a plugin like Freestyle Cast/Crew Edit which allows you to enter the data in a grid form and also makes copy and paste much more easier, then it's not that much work, especially if you're lucky and in addition to the regulars you have a number of recurring guest characters (for example actors who play judges and opposing counsels on Court shows). | | | Karsten

Under no circumstances are you allowed to copy the IMDb data directly into DVDP and then contribute it. Both IMDb and DVDP terms of use forbid such action. | | | Karsten

I do use IMDB and TV dot com to get roles which are often not included in TV credits, but the cast names all come from the credits. |

DJ is correct, it is not as bad as it seems. In a TV season the crew does not vary that much and each episode the guest stars change. Yes you do have to go through the beginning and credits of each episode to catch those. But his FreeStyle Cast and Crew edit plugin makes life MUCH easier. |

Perhaps I never got a great handle on the program, as I found it still used IMDB common names and introduced other problems. Nowadays, I usually get all the data from the 1st episode of the season. Then I open the FreeStyle Cast and Crew edit plugin to copy and append this episode data. Then I edit the title and match the cast & crew to the 2nd episode, and so on. This can be quite cumbersome for 20+ episode seasons. But I've found myself gravitating more towards watching the 10-13 episode/season shows anyway.  | | | My DVD/Blu-ray Collection

It can be painful at times, some series are simple as there are few episodes and new cast members listed, but in others they can both be quite extensive. The good thing is that only one person has to do it, everyone else can copy & paste for different releases. So to me it feels good to once and a while be the one to contribute the longer credits, saving others the trouble. Quote:

Thanks. No. There are rules, as mentioned by others above, but also it is advisable that someone actually check through the credits themselves to avoid repeating errors given on websites. |
