Some DVDs come with an advert/commercial included on them. For example, I’ve just watched one with an advert for Maltesers which starts up when the DVD is first put into the DVD player. (Apparently they’re less than 11 calories each in case anyone is interested). Should commercials like this be counted as an Other Feature?
I personally don't really value them, but they are part of what's on the DVD and some ads do become classics and in their own way and end up with a social or other significance far beyond what was originally anticipated for them.

Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally. So I'm an anarchist, deal with it. Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted... |

They're not Other Features, and I've really never seen any user adding these in a contribution. | | | Corey |

| Posted: | | | | This is sure the real theatre experience... soon we will have to wait 30 minutes or more to watch our movies I agree with tweeter and Corey, this is not a feature (at least not one I would bought a dvd for) |

| Posted: | | | | What if the commercial is about another movie? At what stage does it become a trailer? Especially if not selectable in the menu, but just showing up among the don't copy notices and other junk you want to skip at the beginning. | | | Hans |

| Posted: | | | | If it is for a movie then it is considered a trailer. As the rules say Trailers and TV Spots... TV Spots would be the same thing as a commercial. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | The only time I'd say it was an Other feature is if it was an advert that was (say) contemporary to an old movie/TV show e.g. if they put on a Malteseres advert from the 1950s (with a main feature from that period) to show historical background. If it's just an advert from the era the DVD was made then no. | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

Out of curiosity, has anyone ever seen this? I think that would be kind of cool. | | | Tags, tags, bo bags, banana fana fo fags, mi my mo mags, TAGS! Dolly's not alone. You can also clone profiles. | Posted: | | | | I remember a few years ago an ad on TV for Carlsberg, which was basically all footage from Ice Cold in Alex (with a few digital enhancements). I think there was one that used footage from Casablanca too; I'm sure there’re others. Not quite the same as an old ad put in context with a film, but if one of these popped up on a DVD would anyone consider it to be a trailer? A trailer with very prominent product placement in it?
I'm just waiting for the day I open a DVD case and a load of popcorn and an over-large bucket of fizzy something or other deposits itself on the floor, along with lots of commercials; that would be the true home cinema experience! (Ideally with a cut out of the top of someone's head that I can prop up near the bottom the TV screen.) | | | Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it? | Posted: | | | | I just found an example of contemporary commercials. The Monkees, Season One (UK edition) has "Vintage Monkees Kellogs Commercials" listed under features. | | | Hans |
