I'd suppose that something on your machine is interfering with the test, or your WiFi connection isn't stable enough. Please re-perform test when connected to your Modem by LAN. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Evidently Comcast upped the ante from 50 to 120 and didn't even mention it to us. Just out of curiosity, is Google Fiber coming soon to your area? |

| Posted: | | | | I found myself in a meeting on the 9th floor of PricewaterhouseCoopers offices in London today (don't ask) and in a dull moment thought I'd see how good their open 'visitors' wireless Internet was on my tally old laptop. I haven't got a link to post, but the download speed was around 650 Mb/s and the upload one about 750 Mb/s. I guess that's what a turnover of $34 billion does for you.
I am pleased to report that when they tried to print a label for me to wear at reception, the computer froze. I'll add that to my successful attempt two days ago to stop a whole petrol station working by asking for a receipt from the till, which crashed the whole system for at least 10 minutes (before I got bored and left). And my successful attempt to wreck another till the same day in the same way, for which I successful jammed up the receipt printing bit totally. | | | Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it? Guttermouth "Lemon Water". Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally. So I'm an anarchist, deal with it. Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted... |

What kind of WLAN adapter do you have? Which standards are supported? Those numbers sound unreal for WLAN. |

With a theoretical maximum of 540 MBit/s for an 802.11 ac WiFi-adapter (5 GHz) the Laptop would need a bridged connection of 2 adapters. While some Laptops may have this built in, I somehow doubt that you will find this on a "tally old laptop". "Old" is rather subjective though. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | I've a Dell Latitude E4300, not especially special and as far as I know nothing's been upgraded on it; although it did have a lot of parts replaced last year, which included a new wireless card bit, thing, whatever. (Just checked out of curiosity and under Network Adapters it says, Intel 82567LM Gigabit Network Connection, Intel Centrino Advanced N-6205 and Microsoft virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter.)
All I did was connect to the building's guest wireless (didn't even need a password) and went to the http://www.speedtest.net site and pressed "begin test". It wasn't plugged into anything, not even an external power supply.
If I get to go back there again I'll try to remember to take a screenshot or something. | | | Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it? | Posted: | | | | Quote: Intel Centrino Advanced N-6205 Quite a modern adapter for an "old" Laptop. According to Intel its theoretical max is 300 MBit/s though. Probably something went wrong with the measurement. A bandwidth of 650 Mbit can be considered to be quite luxurious for a "Guest-Access". Admins usually try to reserve as much bandwidth as possible for their own purposes ... 650 would surely impress some IT-Pros from competing companies though. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
