| Posted: | | | | I didn't have to do anything, so I suppose it's off by default and requires being switched on, maybe...?
But still, great to know! | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) | | | Last edited: by nuoyaxin |

| Posted: | | | | I can't quite understand what the itended target for s-mode is. I assume that there are more powerful and flexible tools for organisations to use, such as group policies. And why would individuals want to "cripple" their PCs to only run Windows Store apps? Parental control? | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

Parental control? For safety, maybe? Only apps from the Windows Store can be installed and those should be safe from nasties (viruses, trojans, etc). And S-mode can be turned off if required, at no additional cost. |

If so, I have no idea what you mean. All I know is that S mode only allows apps to be downloaded from the App Store. Windows updates are not apps. |

I don’t think that was the intent, it was only a heads up in case people found DVD Profiler not to work, so they would know the cause. But also, this is about the May 2020 update 2004. | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

Have a look at this site: https://bigtechquestion.com/2018/09/10/software/windows/what-is-windows-10-in-s-mode-and-how-can-you-tell-if-youre-using-it/ It explains how to check if you are using S-mode and also explains what S-mode is. |

| Posted: | | | | Win10 S-mode is primarily installed as OEM on laptops or in Schools and large-scale enterprises. It was designed as a light-weight OS to combat the dominance of Google's Chrome OS.
Currently, you can change from Win10 S-mode to normal Win10 mode, but you CANNOT change from normal mode to S-mode.
Updating a normal installation of Windows 10 (Home, Pro) will NOT result in a S-mode version. |
