DVDProfiler has not been updated since 2017. It looks like, for all intents and purposes, to be a dead application, or at least a very stale old application with no future.
The competition My Movies, has on the other hand been updated recently. |

| Posted: | | | | Nope.
But I've kept a copy of the download of the program as well as a copy of the online profile list. So if the site ever goes out permanently and the program itself gets corrupted somehow I can re-install and put the copy of the profile list into the correct area. Also a copy of the registration key too.
As long as I can keep using the program I will keep using it. |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting DJViking: Quote: The competition My Movies, has on the other hand been updated recently. My Movies implemented a mandatory sync model. You can't use the program locally without it syncing every little change you make to your data. If the application fails to sync well too bad. You won't be able to save your work. If it syncs improperly well too bad. My Movies knows what's best for you. If you don't want to store a copy of your database on their servers well too bad. My Movies is the Borg. You will be assimulated. One word comes to mind, stupid. There's no reason to force a user's local database to be tied at the hip with the My Movies online servers, but that's how it works. And here's the real kicker, when installing the application you are required to log in to your account before you can even begin using it. There's no option to register the application instead. The only option is for your account to be validated. If My Movies ever goes away good luck installing the application and getting logged in to your account. If My Movies ever goes away and you already have the application installed and are logged in, good luck with the mandatory sync model working. DVD Profiler on the other hand doesn't have any of those drawbacks. The Invelos online database could go offline tomorrow permanently. I'll still be able to install and register the application. I'll still be able to add profiles to my collection to my hearts content. I'll still be able to host my own DVD Profiler based website. I'll still be able to backup my local database restoing it if I ever need to. DVD Profiler isn't dead. It's not stale. It's not without a future. DVD Profiler does precisely what it's designed to do and does it well and even supports user created plugins. You can also arrange the layout however you want customizing the user experience in a multitude of ways. None of that is possible with My Movies. To each his own, but I don't find DVD Profiler the least bit stale or outdated. And full disclosure, I catalog my collection with My Movies as well. I do so strictly for the ability to browse my collection from My Movies for Windows Media Center at 150" diagonal in my home theater. Aside from that I have no use for it. | | | My DVD/Blu-ray Collection | | | Last edited: by Lowpro |

| Posted: | | | | I did try My Movies, once (though version 4, and its version 5 now). It had difficulty to match all my titles I imported from DVD Profiler, so I gave it up.
What I do not like about DVD Profiler, is the Windows 95 vibe I get from its design and graphics. Since I use Linux, and DVD Profiler works fine with Wine I keep using it. | | | Last edited: by DJViking |

Not me, I do everything myself offline FWIW DVDP could stop working completly online and that wouldn't change anything for me. No way I'd redo all the hard works I did and continue to do for my films collection with something else... |

Yes, I have tried My Movies and several others but I keep coming back to DVDProfiler. I hope it doesn't go away because so far it's the best out there IMO. |

The competition My Movies, has on the other hand been updated recently. I've tried My Movies, but my main problem with it is the lack of a proper Windows application for browsing your collection (other than Windows Media Center, which won't run on a modern PC). Their Windows software is just a functional, but ugly, means of entering titles, any browsing with a proper GUI has to be done on a mobile app. They made a Windows 8 app at one time that had promise, but abandoned it long ago. |

And does MyMovies expose an application API that allows us curious ones to build extra functionality into it? Not that I can see. Even if Profiler disappears, I will keep using it as this API functionality is worth more than a flash harry gui, which what most people want now, fancy graphics fronting a poorly written application. Profiler is will written and has no known bugs that cause major issues FMPOV. Again just my 2 cents worthless. Some things I use it for are links to the Soundtracks, so just select Movie etc and play soundtrack or theme. Currently working on Plex integration where I have finally ripped all my media to Plex server, and again use Profiler as a front end to kick off playing of said assets. On the list is DLNA module so I can do the two above from any device. |

| Posted: | | | | Yeah, what he said ^^^^^^^ And oh, by the way, check out LoadDVD and LoadDVD Pro if you haven't already. Can play any media from any server in one of several different ways. If I missed something you need, I would be happy to collaborate with you to put it in. I use SMB instead of DLNA due to the filetype restrictions of DLNA. | | | Thanks for your support. | Posted: | | | | MyMovies does not seem to support my custom-made DVDs I've made from Broadcast, VHS and Laserdisc transfers. When I imported my collection from DVD Profiler, there was a slew of titles which weren't found. It also does not seem to have the nice collection layout displays that DVD Profiler has. I also like the Photo Gallery, Watch History, Charts & Graphs and Movie Pick options of DVD Profiler which I do not see in My Movies. | | | Last edited: by Doombear |
