| Posted: | | | | Hi all, I'm sorry if am writing this on a wrong place or violating any other forum rules but here it goes.
I would love if there was Locality for the Nordic countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland) since so many releases is a Nordic release for these countries. These releases has the languages of all countries on the back cover and also all the countries content ratings.
It also seems redundant to create multiple locality versions for the same UPC since they really aren't different.
Well. This is my request. Take care all.
Sincerely, Erik from Sweden |

| Posted: | | | | Same here with the German localities (German, Austria, Switzerland). Most of the titles available in Austria are German releases. I use the Austrian locality only for titles where the media company is an Austrian label (Hoanzl, ORF, ...) and/or if the EAN code is an Austrian one (90...).
I think this could be a good starting point for which locality to use for northern countries too; another hint would be the first encoded language (except the original language audio track) on the disc.
But I agree, multiple localized profiles for one release are not usefull! | | | Complete list of Common Names • A good point for starting with Headshots (and v11.1) |

That wouldn't work since we don't dub movies (except children's movies). Locality of the media company would probably be a better choice. But it's a moot point, since the chances of this (or any other enhancement) seems almost nonexistant. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

The problems are that the Country of Origin and the Locality fields are tied together, and combos are not countries. Also, the Ratings field and SRP populates based on Locality, so that field would also be affected. I'm no programmer, but it seems like such a change would be a major overhaul on the program, and I don't think very feasible. | | | If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. -- Thorin Oakenshield |

I don't know where you get that from but the point here is that they are exactly the same for all four localities. Not always but more often than not. Source eg. in German language hereThe EAN codes are assigned by the production company or the local distribution studio. Because the EAN codes are made up from three parts CountryPrefix/CompanyID/ProductID, you can determine one single country where the release was produced. - From my point of view, this should be the locality used for DVDP, no matter, where the disc was purchased... But to agree with Danae Cassandra: this means you won't get the correct default for the SRP currency, if you live outside this one single country... | | | Complete list of Common Names • A good point for starting with Headshots (and v11.1) |

Then all Universal releases for the german speaking market would get a UK locality altough they were never intended to be released in the UK. So it seems to be a bad idea to determine the localty only by EAN/UPC. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. No they are totally unrelated. I believe this is some sort of connection in the coding, which is why you see Canada (Quebec) as a County of Origin; otherwise Canada would be sufficient regardless of province/territory. |

| Posted: | | | | This would be a good example of a Nordic release. Same UPC but different Overview and different Rating for all 4 Localities. Also SRP is different for all 4 Localities. Because of these differences we need (IMO) 4 profiles for Nordic releases. | | | Markku |

Yes, it isn't ideal to have a lot of the data 4 times in the database, thus updates to to e.g. actors would have to be made 4 times. There might(!) have been a time where the whole data-structure could/should have been changed, e.g. by tying a part of the information like Actors to the Disc-ID while Ratings go to the UPC/Locality. But this would most likely just brought on different problems and, lets be perfectly honest to ourselves, now it simply will not happen. | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |

No they are totally unrelated. The two pieces of data are unrelated, but the two fields are tied together in the code somehow. When the program was first around, the only way Ken could/would add a new Country of Origin was if he could add it as a Locality, and to add it as a Locality he needed the official ratings stuff from that Locality. So at one time a movie like Faraw! would have the CoO field blank, because there was no way to add Mali as a Locality. You can see the vestiges of that today if you use the IOS app. Browse by Country of Origin and you will see that all the countries that are also Localities show up, while all the countries that do not have localities that can be chosen will show up as blanks. To find Mali on my tablet, I just have to keep clicking on blank entries until I get to the one that is Mali. I'm not a programmer, and I'll be the first to say that. But knowing the history of the program, and seeing the way things perform on the app, I think I can say that in some fashion, somewhere in the code, these two fields are still tied together. | | | If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. -- Thorin Oakenshield | | | Last edited: by Danae Cassandra |

| Posted: | | | | This is a bit tricky one, as you also have Benelux (Belgium/Netherlands/Luxemburg) releases, as most releases contains Dutch, German and French languages and uses to have French and Dutch overviews on most of them. So, then there should be Benelux as a new locality as well? |
