| | Posted: | | | | I have seen these written in different ways in the disc description sections and wonder if there is a consensus opinion as to what people prefer and would like to be the semi-official wording. I like the first one (4K Ultra HD) because most of these releases have the words "4K Ultra HD – Blu-ray" or "4K Ultra HD – Blu-ray – DVD" at the top of the box so that would fit with the findings in the poll about the Blu-ray format. |

| | Posted: | | | | "4K Ultra HD", "Ultra HD" or "UHD" just describe the resolution (3840×2160). If we use those we would have to change all "Blu-ray"s to "HD" or "Full HD" or "FHD" and "DVD"s to "SD". The medium itself is an Ultra HD Blu-ray: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra_HD_Blu-rayLike the Blu-ray (Disc) or the DVD. If we want to do it similar to the mentioned poll, it has to be "4K Ultra HD Blu-ray", "Ultra HD Blu-ray" or "UHD Blu-ray". |

That's what I have been doing for a while and why I think 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray make the most sense for the disc information slots. It is my interpretation that we describe in the format in those cases, and things like the episode numbers in others. |

I hope that day never comes! It sounds like the most likely outcome, on the flipside though they also said that about books when the computer came out. I definitely think discs may become even more niche than they are now but there will always be people who prefer the physical version, either for collectors like us or for roadtrips and stuff with no internet |

I've seen profiles with all those listed in the poll and the most common appears to be "4K Ultra HD" followed by "Ultra HD".
As there isn't a rule – and never will be one – it seems to make sense to have something here that we can use to refer to in contribution notes and vote comments. |

Unless there is complete domination in this poll, which so far looks unlikely, I don't see the results of this being something that can be pointed to with any real relevance for contributions. It's not like the common name thread where there is some objective validity to the results. I actually see UHD used more than anything else in my profiles. |
