| | Posted: | | | | When a movie does not have end credits, there is sometimes a small problem.
If the opening credits have cast names in two columns, what is the best way to list them; across and down (the two names in the first row, the two in the second row, etc.) or down and across (first column first, then the second column)?
I see both variants in existing credits, and I accept them as they are. But on a few occasions I have had to enter the credits from scratch, and I just wonder which is the more acceptable method. Or maybe nobody cares? | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users.

| | Posted: | | | | When there is just one column I enter the cast from top to bottom, so I do the same thing when there are multiple columns (IOW, I enter the names by row, from top to bottom), unless there is some obvious reason not to, such as if the names are alphabetized by column.

Hm, I've audited a lot of closing credits, and I can't recall seeing dual columns there. But I'm not going to say that I doubt you, because I'm sure you'd prove me wrong in no time at all. | | Posted: | | | | I've seen this myself (on opening titles, not closing credits - can't think of a single instance except for lists of stunt people and the like) and I tend to go by column, not row, which is how I read a newspaper, I suppose, so it's what I'm used to.
This doesn't help, I know.
I'm with Gamemaster; if there's some sort of clear alphabetical order, I'll follow that. If not, I'll go column by column. |

If there is a graphical hint (different spacing between lines, floating lines, ...) I go by lines/rows
If there is a conclusion throughout the web about the most important cast (or a web presence of the studio/distributor), I use the order (row/column) to match this sorting as close as possible

Well, at least it reinforces my thought that there is no reason to change any existing order (except possibly if there is an alphabetical order and the existing entry goes against it). But a self-rule I tend to go by (and no one has said anything either way as most of my audits are low to no budget horror releases maybe 2 other people own, often just a profile from release info with no voters) is this:
If the column is in a scroll and doesn't all fit on the screen at any one time, then I go row by row. I'm not rewinding when auditing/profiling! |
