| Posted: | | | | I have noticed that several combo packs in the collection, that the child profiles for the different format has a different UPC# than the parent.
So the question is, do we create an alternate profile for the child profile and update the cover of the child to match the parent profile when the only difference is the UPC#? |

| Posted: | | | | We have the same problem when a boxset contains a disc profile that has been previously released with another cover. It is a problem that has no simple answer. Possible solutions are: 1) Change cover and contribute. 2) Change cover and contribute as an alternate profile. 3) Change cover, lock and keep local. 4) Keep as is and don't care. 1) This is a no-no! NEVER do that!2) This is acceptable (I think), but unless the original profile is 100% correct and complete it creates a maintenance problem. Updating one profile does not update the other. Sounds familiar? 3) This is my personal choice, but it also comes with a problem. Every user that downloads the boxset will be faced with the same choices, and chances are that some novice user will chose option 1 and potentially screw things up. If the contribution is accepted, that is. 4) Perfectly acceptable, but I doubt that many collectors would be satisfied with having the wrong cover image. That's what I was thinking too, but the rules regarding alternate profiles don't really make it clear. Quote: Updated re-releases of a title under the same UPC/EAN/Disc ID
Use for: Two or more releases of the same title with largely different cover images (e.g. Disc ID profiles shared among different box sets). One could argue either way. 1. That a UPC# alone difference isn't a "largely different cover image" change. 2. That it is, since UPC#s are a unique way to link discs to cases. |

COMBO SET To answer CubbyUps original combo pack question, a set containing the same film on multiple media types (that is, a combo set) can only have child Disc ID profiles.
Any combo set profile with a UPC# child profile is invalid and should be removed and replaced with the correct child Disc ID profile (as per the combo set rules).
Checklist: If the Disc ID already exists in a different profile for the same locality, then create an ALTERNATE Disc ID profile using the combo set parent cover. If this Disc ID doesn't exist, then create a new Disc ID profile for the same locality using the combo set parent cover.
BOX SET On the other hand, if we are talking about box sets, then the box set rules are quite straight forward. The child profiles can be UPC# or Disc ID, and if they are individually packaged, you use the cover images from the UPC# or Disc ID packaging (as per the box set rules).
Here is a checklist I use to help construct the box set child profiles -
BOX SET UPC# CHILD: With individual packaging: 1. If the UPC# profile already exists in the same locality and the cover scans are the SAME then there is no further work, just add it to the box set using the UPC# covers. 2. If the UPC# profile already exists in the same locality and the cover scans are significantly DIFFERENT then create an ALTERNATE UPC# profile and add it to the box set using the new UPC# covers. 3. If the UPC# doesn't exist in the same locality, then create new UPC# profile and add it to the box set using the new UPC# covers.
Without individual packaging: 4. Not applicable (no covers = no UPC#).
BOX SET DISC-ID CHILD: With individual packaging: 5. If the Disc ID profile already exists in the same locality and the cover scans are the SAME, then just add it to the box set using the Disc ID covers. 6. If the Disc ID profile already exists in the same locality and the cover scans are significantly DIFFERENT, then create ALTERNATE Disc ID profile using new Disc ID covers. 7. If the Disc ID profile doesn't exist in the same locality, then create new Disc ID profile using the new Disc ID covers.
Without individual packaging: 8. If the Disc ID profile already exists in a different profile for the same locality, then create ALTERNATE Disc ID profile using box set parent covers. 9. If the Disc ID profile doesn't exist in the same locality, then create new Disc ID profile using the box set parent covers. |
