| | Posted: | | | | You may have noticed a large number of contributions adding D-Box. I was PMing with the originator of these and he gave me this explanation. I'm presenting it here for discussion as to validity.
As with every feature, you need equipment that supports it.
For D-Box, one needs a D-Box system which consists of one or more motion seats and a controller. The controller is the brain of the system. It listens to the soundtrack and synchronizes the motion to the movie. All the codes, i.e. the motion patterns and the fingerprints of the audio tracks, are ultimately stored on the controller. It uses a Shazam-like algorithm to recognize the movie/audio track.
The codes are downloaded from D-Box's server, so the codes can be released after the release of the physical disk. Last year D-Box released motion codes for James Bond Goldfinger... it works with every disk, broadcast or stream of that movie.
Through the D-Box Motion Controller app on can not only set up the system, but one also has access to the library of motion codes and one can search for a given movie if it is supported. | | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |

If it's not on the disc or mentioned on the menu and/or packaging then it shouldn't be added.
Sure Digital Copies used to be on the disc itself, but now they are available via download. But because they are mentioned on the packaging we included it as a feature.
But we wouldn't go back and edit a several years old profile to add a Digital Copy to it just because it's now been made available for download on later releases.
So the same with D-Box. |

As the originator I considered the D-Box support info as useful for D-Box owners as well as those considering such a system. If DVD Profiler is supposed to be the central point of information of your Collection, I still think the D-Box Info belongs there. I would even go further and request this option, which currently is available for Blu-Rays only, for DVD as well...
One can of course use custom tags but the whole point of DVD Profiler is that the data is being contributed by everyone so that every user can take advantage...
The D-Box code on the Disc Feature was a temporary thing, when D-Box controllers still had an optical drive... for a couple of years now, since the system has moved to the Shazam-like algorithm, the codes on the Disc can‘t be used with the current D-Box HEMC (Home Entertainment Motion Controller) anymore and all codes come via download and valid subscription is needed.

Markus When one needs to purchase a "system", then the data does not get contributed. The rules state: "The authoritative source for information submitted should be the DVD itself. Please don't submit content from a third party database, and always verify the specifications printed on the cover." Since the data you are contributing does NOT come from the DVD or the cover, per rules, it can NOT be contributed. If the data is important to you, tick the D-Box and lock the Features section so it will not be overridden. But, that data should not be contributed. |

I go back to the digital copy. The only reason we include the DC tag, is if it is actually included with he purchase. There are many movies that are on VUDU or Movies Anywhere or others that have available DC of movies that I do not own.
Since it was something that wasn't included with purchase, tehn It should not be included with the profile.
Though, you may start a pinned thread to cover the movies that have D-box available, therefore the info would be available to the people that read the forums..
My opinion...your mileage may vary... |
