For example, I have a lot of 505* EANs that are purely for the German market, e.g. 5-053083-071813   According to the wiki page, 505 is a UK prefix. It's probably due to the fact that the manufacturing company is located there and simply produces the DVDs for the entire EU market (at least until Brexit). | | | Karsten

| | Posted: | | | | Definitely a tricky subject, as DJ points out. When I was writing BulkEdit, I needed to guess the locality for profiles imported from outside DVD Profiler. I have found that the Rating is a good predictor for locality, especially when it is unique. The GS1 code is more closely aligned with Country of Origin (manufacture), whereas Locality (reflected in the Rating) indicates the target market. In DI's case, the DVD was likely manufactured in the UK for markets where the FSK Rating system is in effect, including of course Germany, which was exactly his conclusion. The kind of information found here, is used in the BulkEdit Locality Guesser. Invleos provides a complete table of localities with corresponding Ratings in use by DVD Profiler.
