Why are there so many profiles with glaring errors and flat out incorrect information? |

| Posted: | | | | What is the purpose of having all these rules, guidelines and voting on contributions if they are approved with glaring inaccuracies? I just did an update and there was one for the UK Edition of The Avengers Infinity War 3-D edition adding a child. The cover picture with the child was of the 4K cover. This is NOT a 4K release at all. There is no 4K disc with it, the last contribution uploader must like the pretty picture. That's fine for your own private database, but don't upload it. And why did that make it through the contribution voting?
I constantly get profiles with inaccurate information, but it seems that Invelos plays favorites with contributors. Many times, I have uploaded corrected profiles with 100% accurate information only to have them rejected for some reason or other, many times unexplained, yet I get new profiles or updated profiles of DVD's that are years and years old that have bad data overwriting good data that was already there. I don't have time to police every profile I download, and especially updates of older titles because I have a very large collection. But when you download an update to a brand new title and it has a picture that does not match or information that was there is deleted or changed to inaccurate information, I wonder just what good this is doing. I gave up sending updated contributions a long time ago because they kept getting rejected for no good reason only to have another update come down the pike with bad or deleted information. And rejections also seem to happen a lot for certain categories of movies such as gay themed films - not porn, just stories with gay characters such as Brokeback Mountain. Constantly rejected. Homophobic much? Those I update myself and do not even bother to upload anymore. |

| Posted: | | | | I know, sometimes ranting is necessary...
But to the subtantial things in your post:
a) incorrect scans/pictures with newer releases: They are often pre release pictures waiting to be replaced by a correct scan. This is covered by the rules... Sometimes there are simply two different releases with the same UPC/EAN. b) not getting profile updates approved: get more specific, discuss the issues over here... many many problems are simply misunderstanding of the rules, differently interpreting them or a lack of knowledge, what was already discussed here, but never made it to the rules. And even if a completly perfect contribution gets declined - which can happen from time to time - discussing here and providing more specific documentation helps. At first it would help to declare your country/location in your user profile, to show your contribution fellows/voters/screeners that they are concerned... c) homophobic attitudes: complete nonsense. There are tons of gay porn profiled... | | | Complete list of Common Names • A good point for starting with Headshots (and v11.1) |

One thing that Ken has said, that - of course - isn't mentioned in the rules, is that contributions with some errors may be accepted if the contributions contain mainly good information, and that the incorrect information can be corrected later. I'm not sure I'm entirely happy with this, as I often see comments like "The contribution was accepted, so obviously Invelos is OK with this". | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. If what you're describing is actually happening, than those are mistakes, obviously. Contributions are first evaluated by the voters, and then by the screeners. If there are a bunch of no-votes, then that doesn't exactly improve your chances of getting the profile approved, so it would be good to monitor any incoming no-votes before the contribution is processed by the screeners. The no-votes need to be accompanied by a reason, so that could help, but you can only see those reasons while the profile hasn't been approved or declined yet - not after the fact. If you're seriously looking for answers, then it would be good if you provided us with specific examples. Name a UPC/EAN (barcode) plus its locality, and describe what went wrong - the specifics give us the possibility of looking up the profile and reading the contribution notes, and then things may become a whole lot clearer. Or not, that's possible too, but at least we could try. Homophobic much? Those I update myself and do not even bother to upload anymore. There again, try to be more specific. By all means, try to submit one of those profiles again, and tell us the UPC/EAN (barcode) of that profile, plus its locality, so we're able to take a look. Maybe someone here will be able to spot a reason why that contribution would have been declined earlier. Mistakes do happen, but quite often there's a reason for a decline. |

| Posted: | | | | There's also the fact that every submission has the option of being voted on. If there's a problem with the data, people vote no.
I submit a great deal. It's very occasionally rejected, and that's always my error - usually because I've forgotten to tick (or un-tick) a box (T!m quite rightly voted down a submission of mine the other week because I'd accidentally deleted the disc profiles whilst submitting full cast and crew), but that's why we all have the chance to vote on submitted amendments.
I notice, wolfman6, that you haven't made a single vote. It's all very well complaining, but if you're not willing to do the work to fix the mistakes, I'm not sure you have much of a right to complain at all. |
