| Posted: | | | | I was wondering if we see a group of people credited as Makeup Artists or Special Effects do we include a divider for them or not? Based upon this part of the rules, I would say yes. Quote: Dividers allow the segregation of cast and crew into logical groupings. Wherever possible, these groupings should mirror the film credits. |

| Posted: | | | | I wouldn't, except for: Quote: Exception: If a company name heads a group of crew, use the Group divider to enter the company name. Quote: Also use Group dividers for crew teams, included only if the crew meets the other listing requirements. But I never quite understood the last one so I just ignore it and carry on. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

| Posted: | | | | No, with the exception of the Company Name thing that iPatsa mentioned. | | | My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT. FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that. Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it! |

| Posted: | | | | But doesn't that go against the rules when the rules states "Also use Group dividers for crew teams" as well as "these groupings should mirror the film credits."?
Wouldn't a group of people credited with Special Effects, Makeup, Sound Editors or whatever qualify as a "crew team" and wouldn't using the Group Dividers "mirror the film credits"?
I'm just saying that based upon how I read and understand the wording of the rules it would seem to be that Group Dividers should be used. |

| Posted: | | | | I raised this point as soon as group dividers, and the badly-written rules that accompanied them, were introduced. I immediately wondered why the rules didn't properly explain why a group of, say, "Soldiers" qualified for a group divider, yet a group of say, "Sound Editors" did not. Those concerns were laughed away at the time - many felt it was all entirely obvious. How could I even *think* that someone would want to abuse group dividers in that way? But here we are now, several years down the line, discussing exactly that...
But please, please let's not do this. Embedding a group of Sound Editors under a "Sound Editors" header, with each of them individually listed as "Sound Editor" right underneath again (note that unlike cast, we can't remove the crew role - that in itself should tell us something) is entirely pointless. Every time there are two (supervising) sound editors, two re-recording mixers, two make-up artists, two composers, two art directors, two wardrobe supervisors, and so on - those would all need group dividers. I *really* don't want to go down that route... Do you? | | | Last edited: by T!M |

| Posted: | | | | Well I'm just going by the wording of the rules.
But let's take Special Effects.
Right now, due to limitations of the program, Special Effects is credited as Visual Effects..
Wouldn't at least a Group Divider for Special Effects groups actually be helpful? |

Except, as others (and the rules) have stated, when those special effects credits are preceded by a company name, like "Special Effects by <company name>". *That* would warrent the use of a divider, but otherwise definitely not, IMHO. If you want Invelos to add another crew category called "Special Effects", then by all means, campaign for that. But in the meantime, let's not abuse another feature, one that was never meant for it, to shoehorn in that label anyway. Because, again, once you do it there, there's no stopping it. Every couple of sound editors, re-recording mixers, make-up artists, composers, art directors, wardrobe supervisors etc. would then turn into pointless groups. | | | Last edited: by T!M |

| Posted: | | | | I agree, that more dividers wouldn't add much value.
But if you are talking about a new crew categories, name it Post Production including visual effects (mixing them up with special effects is simply wrong) and post production sound roles...
But more important than creating new crew roles or categories, would be to get a (contributable) credited as field for crew members (in fact a contributable Custom role with a rule set). This would eliminate a lot of discussions, which spelling of a credit belongs to which role...
Best example are the wrinting credits. They get more complex from release to release and the quarreling increases with each new rolename. Today we distinguish seven roles which neither fit the needs nor can be distinguished by everyone (anyone?). It would be sufficient to have three roles: Original material (including anything pre-script), Screenwriter (any writing based on original material) and Writer (anyone who writes a script from scratch). Any further details can - and should - be added by using a contributable custom role name/credited as field.
Which roles are to be contributed should not be defined in detail by the programm, but by the rule set, which should be presented with Help-Buttons - as context sensitive as possible - when filling in the forms! | | | Complete list of Common Names • A good point for starting with Headshots (and v11.1) |
