David Essex in Octaman, Same as another Actor/Musicican?

Trying to determine if the David Essex in the 1971 film Octaman is the same as another person who appeared in several films from the early 1970's thru the 2014 film The Guvnors.

The film is directed by Harry Essex, an American, and the David Essex in Octaman is his son.
