| Posted: | | | | Latest Windows 10 updated today to new April update, but situation existed before today. Windows running on VMWare Fusion on two iMacs. One has had DVD Profiler running flawlessly, but then database disappeared, so I've uninstalled, wiped everything incl registry, and tried to reinstall several times (reboots between). The other machine is virginal - never had DVD Profiler on it. Every time I start, no matter what option I select after inputting my permanent serial number, I get the error that the program cannot access the file ...\Databases\Default\ACTORASSGN.DAT - which of course doesn't yet exist. I cannot find anywhere that this file path is stored. Then I get continuous error screens about cannot access "dvdpro.exe" etc, and eventually I just have to crash out of the program, and uninstall - again. I've been using DVD Profiler since just about the beginning, all those years ago, and have a database of several thousand DVDs. Luckily I have a backup stored in Dropbox, but there is no way I can ever get to the point of telling the programm to restore that backup. Has Windows 10 broken DVD Profiler? Does DVD Profiler need to be updated to work with the latest versions of Windows 10? I don't know the answers, and it is frustrating as heck. I don't have access to my database, either on the iMac it has been running on for years, or on a cleanskin iMac with a cleanskin, fully updated VMWare Fusion and updated Windows 10. All other Windows programs run just fine - it's just DVD Profiler that instantly looks for a non-existent database file, even on a clean, new install. Hellllpppppp.....!!!!!! |

| Posted: | | | | My windows 10 is version 1709 ( OS build 16299.371 ) I have a dual boot PC Windows XP on one drive and windows 10 on another . .I have choice upon start up which program to boot into..
The main Profiler I use is located on windows XP but when I log out restart and boot into windows 10 bring up profiler I can run two data bases on either program.. and if I upgrade or upload new info to windows XP in windows 10 I can find and install that data into my Profiler from that Harddrive using File/open database/browse to the data on the exisiting drive and locate the data : documernts/settings/my name/dvdprofiler/databases/default /collection.dat
It would be nice if it opened to do a repair /profile /database .. but since its not opening and its happening on two PC's it's most like the program itself can't read the data and in my years here on the forum. its most likey a font issue .. | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. | Posted: | | | | Thanks for the reply - appreciated But how does a font issue apply when what it is trying to do is to read a database that isn't there? WHY is it trying to read a non-existent database? Where is it getting that file path from that makes it try to read ..\Databases\Default\ACTORASSGN.DAT ? Even on the machine that has never had the program on it before? On the original machine I could understand that I may have missed a reference to that in the registry (although I searched it), but on the brand new clean machine? It's obviously been put there by installing the program - but why? On the startup options screen, if I select "Restore from a database backup" or words to that effect, it immediately gives me that same error. If I select the "Browse" button to locate my backup, as soon as I hit the browse button I get the same error. This is then followed by an endless series of errors about failure to access "dvdpro.exe" - which has to be a Windows problem, doesn't it? Even though I run DVD Profiler as Administrator?. Eventually I just have to choose the option "Close DVD Profiler" at the bottom of the option pane - but even that results in more errors before appearing to close the program. And even after that, if I try to delete the dvdpro.exe file during an uninstall, it tells me I can't as the file is in use - even though it's closed. Another sign, to me at least, that it somehow relates to file access and permissions problems with somewhing in the new Windows 10 updates. But I don't know what it is or how to fix it... |

| Posted: | | | | PS: I should have mentioned that the version of DVD Profiler that I've been installing is v4 Build 1762 - the latest one from the Invelos web site. And I've downloaded it (both in zip format and the bare .exe file format) several times in case of a corrupted download. And also separate fresh download on the new virginal iMac. So it's not a corrupted download, unless both versions of the file are corrupted on the Invelos site. |

| Posted: | | | | I am running DVDP v4 build 1762 on Windows 10 version 1709 and am not having any trouble with it.
You might want to try running the standalone Database Repair Utility before trying to run DVDP itself.

| Posted: | | | | Err - while I appreciate any help I can get, the problem with running the database repair utility is that there is NO database to repair. The path ...\DVD Profiler\Databases\Default doesn't exist. And that's the problem. It disappeared apparently on its own (although we know how silly that idea is) and that was the start of my problems. I tried the Database Repair Utility as my first line of attack, but it failed miserably. Then when I looked in the folder - there was NO database. Nothing. Zip. Zilch. So now I've been trying to erase all traces of DVD Profiler and reinstall it as a new program, so that I can restore from my backup - but I can't do that. See my posts above. Even with a brand new, virginal cleanskin fresh install, it still tries to find ...\DVD Profiler\Datases\Default\ACTORASSGN.DAT and that is all it tries to do. And of course, that database doesn't exist. And it never lets me get to the stage of being able to restore from my backup. It's very frustrating. |

Thank you for your thorough response - much appreciated. I'd actually done all of those steps - several times. I did that between every uninstall'reinstall, and I also included a reboot. Unfortunately, it still doesn't start up. I'll give it one more go, then if it fails again, I'll wait for the next update to either Windows 10 or DVD Profiler - or both. EDIT: Just went through it all again - same result. There's something weird going on, as it is trying to access a non-existent database from the outset, and never lets me get to the stage of being able to restore from my backed up database. Very frustrating. I give up. If anyone from Invelos monitors these forums, perhaps it needs to be looked at in light of somebody else with the same problem (although it seemed to fix itself) and that perhaps it is due to one of the Windows 10 updates. | | | Last edited: by OriginalNightStalker |

| Posted: | | | | Thanks - did that and all clear. No repair needed. Remember this is Windows 10 running under VMWare Fusion on a Mac. But scannow still works, and gave the all clear. (Sigh) Having got so used to DVD Profiler since it first came out all those years ago, I'm finding it hard to live without it. We still use predominantly DVDs, in this age of streaming, as our bandwidth isn't really good enough for streaming. Looks like I'll just have to wait and see if Invelos release an update sometime soon |

| Posted: | | | | Invelos profiler only works with windows not macs or Apple pc. You may have windows 10 on a Mac but you need Windows XP or 7,8,10 for the program to work. | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

| Posted: | | | | Hello ! I'm from Germany. I've got the same problem! OS is WIN 10 Version 1803 and DVD Profiler 4. I've uninstalled it at the end of August '18 and installt it immediately - including all Databases and so on! Now on 15.09.18 the same again - no Database for the second time. Dos this depend on the Windows update? I'e got this software for several years and never been such a trouble. I will now install it again and put the Database to another HDD. The problem will take afford in just two weeks - I think - lets take a look! |
