| Posted: | | | | I have a Blu-ray Disc Drive for my laptop but it doesn't read UHD discs. Is there any other way I can get disc IDs for UHD or do I have to wait for someone else to do it? Normally it wouldn't be the end of the world, but I have things like the UHD Spider-Man Legacy Collection that has child profiles that are UHD that I can't add without it. |

| Posted: | | | | You have to wait for someone. IIRC, the only UHD PC drives right now are internal drives for desktops. |

| Posted: | | | | A few of the recent external LG drives should work, but I would not vouch for that and I don't know which ons exactly.
I have the Pioneer BDR-XD06J-UHD connected to my iMac, which reads the disc IDs and would be able to play UHD-BDs on a Windows 10 PC if you meet the hardware requirements. But this drive is only available in Japan (via ebay) and costs about $200. |

| Posted: | | | | I'm not aware of any external 4k ultra drives for PC's. The Pioneer BDR-211UBK Internal BD/DVD/CD Writer Supporting Ultra HD Blu-Ray Playback appears to be one of the only internal drives available ($116.95 @ Amazon) | | | Hal |

| Posted: | | | | I am using this one for my ThinkPad. Originally it was in the internal Ultrabay, but then I switched to a thinner Thinkpad, so I now use the drive in one of those slim USB enclosures. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. | | | Last edited: by mediadogg |

| Posted: | | | | Question for anyone out there that owns this LG WH16NS40 drive: https://smile.amazon.com/LG-WH16NS40-Internal-Blu-ray-Rewriter/dp/B00E7B08MS/https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136269Does the latest version of this drive read UHD Disc IDs in the Profiler program? I ask only because I already own the older version (mid-2015) of this drive, which does not have the "SVC code: NS50" on the top of the drive label and has a different looking front plate. The older drive does not read UHD discs, they simply spin and spin. It's the same exact model number (WH16NS40) and everything, but apparently only the newer versions of the drive/model (with "SVC code: NS50" on the top label) can actually recognize the UHD disc structure from what I understand. I think the newer versions of this drive model are post-2016 or so. It's listed as UHD "friendly" drive (with "SVC code: NS50") here for instance: https://www.deuhd.ru/supported.htmlIt's really all I currently need...since my existing PC's motherboard, etc. can't support "full" 4K UHD playback and I don't need to actually spend twice as much $$ just for a similar fully compliant UHD drive model. | | | Corey | | | Last edited: by Katatonia |

No, the latest version of the WH16NS40 with firmware v1.03 will not read UHD Blu-rays. When I purchased a second drive from Amazon in February it came with the patched firmware. You'll need a drive with firmware v1.02 or lower. | | | Last edited: by rdodolak |

It sounds like LG did that on purpose just to disable the UHD capability of the drive. | | | Corey |

Yes, they did and they did that to all of their older "unofficial" BD drives that would read UHD Blu-rays. If you happen to have an older computer where you can set the SATA configuration in the BIOS fto IDE vice AHCI then there is a method in downgrade the firmware. From what I understood, past "official" LG firmware allowed you to downgrade firmware until the latest version which now prohibits it. |
