Flag by UPCs dialog box is not able to open text file of UPC numbers |

| Posted: | | | | I am trying to flag profiles of DVDs that are currently at the in-laws. Rather than bring the DVDs to my place to scan their UPCs, I scanned the UPCs at their location (using a Smartphone app) and then tried to select the resultant text file of UPC numbers. The Flag by UPCs dialog box (Collection->Flags->Flag by UPCs) does let me select the text file, but when I click on "Open", the file dialog closes, but nothing else happens - no error message and no list of UPC numbers appear in the Flag by UPCs dialog box.
I have tried this process with a text file that contains several UPC numbers, one number per line, as well as a text file with only one UPC number. Neither work.
I have also tried importing these scanned UPC numbers using the Add Multiple dialog box (on the Add DVDs to Collection screen) with the same failure - I can select the import text file, but when I click on Open, the file dialog closes and no other action takes place.
In both test cases, the OK button in the dialog box remains dimmed as the UPC list remains empty.
I am using version 4.0.0, Build 1762 of DVD Profiler on my desktop PC. (Upgraded this week to version 4 after successful run of "Repair Profile Database" on the Option/Utilities menu. as per upgrade instructions)
Am I missing something simple?

| Posted: | | | | hm, works for me as it should. When you load the text, does something like "X Flagged" show up at the bottom of the DVD Profiler Window? Does the list you made contain UPCs 12 numbers? Just checking, maybe the app mucked something up.
Debugging: - Flag a few profiles at random - Collection -> Flags -> Save Set...
Now you can have a look at how the files should look, it resides (IIRC by default) in: $your_User\Documents\DVD Profiler\Flags Make a copy of it and rename it to TXT so you can either load it as a set (*.LST) or UPC file (*.TXT)
- Collection -> Flags -> Unflag All - Collection -> Flags -> Load Set... and open the saved list, they should now be flagged again.

| Posted: | | | | Thank you, Mithi, for your tip to export and then import a couple of flagged items in my existing collection. That tip worked fine and pointed to the source of the problem: text file type. My original source of UPC numbers was a .CSV file output from the UPC-to-Sheet smartphone app. I imported this to into Excel, stripped out all column data other than the UPC column and then exported that as a Unicode text file.
Apparently, among the harem of text file choices, DVD Profiler treats the Unicode (UTF-16) format as uniquely impotent, refusing to touch such a file. A text-file compare in Beyond Comparison 4 of the two text files, one an ANSI file and the other a Unicode file, that contains the exact same info - one UPC number shows a difference of 14 bytes in the file size, but is otherwise the same. The former imported and set a flag in DVD Profiler just fine, the latter did not. Go figure.
Thanks also to you, Gunar, for your tip about putting the list of UPC numbers into the clipboard and pasting into the Flag-by-UPCs list box. That process also worked nicely.
Again I am impressed by the devotion to an avocation found here on the Invelos forum. I have enjoyed greatly both the product and the community support since I began using DVD Profiler a number of years ago.
Thanks for the tips leading to solving the Case of the Impotent Import.
