How do you classify something like Comic-Con panels? Featurette or Interview? |

| Posted: | | | | No voting conflict here, I've gotten several Warner season Blu-rays recently and most have Comic-Con panels which is just cast and a few producers/writers at a table on stage answering a variety of questions from the moderator. So, is this a featurette or interviews? I'm thinking the latter but wanted others inputs. |

| Posted: | | | | I have always, absolutely always, entered these as interviews.
Never had an issue.
That's what it is.
It's not the "traditional" setting of an interview that you'd see (something like the off camera person asking questions and the actor in a close up answering them), but it's still absolutely an interview. A group interview if you will.
Usually with these (I'm thinking something like Vampire Diaries or Supernatural where I've seen them most recently) that's all it is as well. The interview starts with them walking out on stage, plays through and ends when it's done. Nothing else put into it at all (such as clips, or behind the scenes stuff, which in my opinion would THEN make it a feature), just a straight up question and answer session, which is, by definition, an interview. | | | The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play. |

| Posted: | | | | That's what I thought, though would like to know the two people who voted featurette.
Side question to this, what about the features on Shout Factory releases? They call them interviews on the back and it is a sit down interview with the actor talking but intercut are clips from the movie. I see those entered as featurettes. |

| Posted: | | | | Sounds like interview to me as well... as long as there is no clips from the show included then it is an interview. With clips from the show it becomes a featurette. At least that is how I always did it. | | | Pete |

Shout Factory releases, on the regular, confuse me and annoy me. I own almost every single one (released from Scream Factory), and from one to the other to the other, they're done differently (including by myself as well). In MY opinion, almost all of the Interviews that Shout has ever included on their discs are straight up Interviews, no question about it. Just because a still from the film is inter-cut at one point over the person talking, does not make it a featurette. Just because a 10 second clip is played from the film that leads into the next line of questioning, or is played because they were specifically discussing it, does not make it a featurette. In my opinion, they're 100% interviews. IF they included things like, behind the scenes footage, cutting away to different interviews of someone who is not the main subject of the interview, cutting to footage of like, premiere night of the movie etc. etc. etc. stuff like that, that would then make them featurettes. I don't think I've ever seen any of them actually do that. HOWEVER, on more than one occasion, when I've entered these things as Interviews, I get shot down with no votes from folks saying that because there's a five second clip of the film during the interview, that makes it a featurette. SO, I do my best to decipher between the two as best as possible. If there's an interview where it's almost a straight up interview, maybe a still photo of the film put in there somewhere, I enter it as an interview. If there's more than just a picture or a few seconds of the movie (like if the interview opens with a two minute shot of the opening scene or something), I enter it as a featurette... otherwise I find I get no votes out the wazoo... | | | The night is calling. Although I'm not sure I agree with this clips from the show position (see previous post for some explanation and I believe my position is backed up by the contribution rules), in this case, I personally have never seen anything inserted into any of these comic-con panels ever. There of course COULD be, but not in any of the ones I've seen. | | | The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play. | | | Last edited: by Merrik |

Yeah, on the bolded part, after an intro setting up the comic-con locale, it's just the cast/producers talking and answering questions why the latest season of their show is the best yet (until the next season, of course). | | | Last edited: by The Movieman |

Yeah, I generally get Shout releases early and enter them as interviews but they get changed to featurettes. No biggie, I just lock it and keep it local. |

Yeah, I generally get Shout releases early and enter them as interviews but they get changed to featurettes. No biggie, I just lock it and keep it local. I actually think that was one of the major contributing reasons that I at one point starting entering them as featurettes in the first place (for those that I was the first contributor on) or changing them if/when I have (using some sort of copy and paste notes from the folks that had changed them on previous releases). Because I was seeing them so often changed from Interviews to Featurettes on profiles that you had contributed. That, then coupled with the no votes I received to either change them back or when there was nothing entered, enter them as Interviews, has just led me to try and find the general consensus and go from there... despite the fact that it then becomes wildly inconsistent... | | | The night is calling. | Posted: | | | | This is something I've run into time and time again as well. I see "Interviews" being changed to "Featurettes" and back, with no consensus whatsoever. The current poll results (5 to 7 at the moment) clearly indicate the lack of consensus as well.
Again, I feel that matters like this need to be addressed in the rules. These polls are nice, but more often than not, they're not leading to a consensus, and even when they do, we get users saying "yeah, well, that poll means nothing when the result hasn't been incorporated into the rules, so I'm not going to change what I'm doing or how I'm voting".
The thing I want from Invelos more than anything else, more than program updates or shorter beta cycles, is exactly this. Every time such a simple yes or no question is being asked, and we've kicked it around for a day or to, then I want Invelos to jump in, make a decision, and preferably also type a few words into the contribution rules to make that decision readily available to the entire userbase. That really shouldn't cost more than a few minutes, so I really don't understand why it doesn't happen. And for the record: I'm more than willing to pay something extra, even in some form of a subscription model, if that would mean that Ken spent some more time in the forums and actually answered and/or settled say fifty of these recurring questions. Imagine what an amount of good spending just a couple of hours on that, even just once, could do...
In this particular case, I'd like Invelos to state that such Q&A-panels with cast and crew qualify as "Interviews", not as "Featurettes". |
