You could think that the edition field in DVD Profiler is one of the rare areas without any need for discussion. But hey it wouldn't be DVD Profiler if this were the case.
So when making contributions for 2 Italian movies I got a no vote for entering a number as part of the edition.
My other contribution has a number in the edition field as well but only yes votes.
So I'm asking myself the question should numbers be part of the edition.
And if so under which conditions?

This was my first contribution:
Escalation > The current profile has Italo Cinema Collection as edition. Italo Cinema Collection appears on the spin and on the back cover but the back cover has Nr. 01 added to it:

My second contribution:
Fango Bollente > The current profile Italian Genre Cinema Collection No. 19 as edition. Italian Genre Cinema Collection No. 19 appears on the spin and the back cover:

(it's a different title from the collection but the design is the same)

You could argue that in case the number appears on both (back) cover and spin so this should be entered.
But if so why do the titles from Eureka's Masters of Cinema collection get added to the database without their number as part of the edition.
The Masters of Cinema Series #134 appears on the cover and the spin of the release:

But the profiles always get added without the number.

So should numbers be part of the edition and what are the conditions to add them?
Think different

Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.

I'd like to see a separate field to track the collection numbers of a series.

Precedent is never. Series like this have existed since before DVD Profiler 1.0 did and we've never entered this.

Feel free to add the number to your local database, that's what I do with Criterion titles and some other series.

I think it depends on its usage. If the No. is describing which edition it is then it belongs. In your examples I think all 3 should have a number because it describes the edition. Kill Bill it's part of the title. Just my 2 pennies.

From the rules:

"The Edition field is for distinguishing between DVDs, and for indicating special versions and collections (for example The Criterion Collection, Widescreen, Full-Screen Edition, Director's Cut)."

From this I gather that a collection name can be entered in the Edition field. Mentioning a number as well would IMHO defeat the purpose as indicated in this quote. Seems to me Edition can be used to indicate a collection rather than a specific release within the collection.

I think The Masters of Cinema Series: #134 qualifies, but that's just me. If they do not fly in the online then I would keep it local.
