What if the cover information on a movie is incorrect? Do I use the correct indformation in the profile, or the information on the cover?

I have a movie, Warlock (774212501708) that is 103 minutes. The cover says 92 minutes. There doesn't appear to ever been a cut of the movie that was only 92 minutes long and I've confirmed the movie on the disk is indeed 103 minutes, hell, it's 97 minutes to the start of the credits.

Box also says release date of 1986 when the movie was actually released in 1989

Use the actual running time from the disc:

"Use the Running time specified on the DVD cover unless you can verify there is a discrepancy between that and the actual Running time. When contributing an accurate, DVD-based, time from the DVD, round down from 29 seconds and up from 30 seconds in the nearest minute. Include your verification method in your Contribution Notes. For instance, note that a given movie has an actual Running time of 119: 37, Running time would be 120 even if the case said 119 or 121.

For branching titles, or those with multiple versions (e.g. Theatrical and Director's Cut) on the same disc, use the longest running time.  Exception: If the longer version is available only as part of an Easter Egg, use the shorter running time."

and I always just make sure to include in my contribution notes (whether it's a first time contribution or correcting the error) that the data on the cover is incorrect and I've verified this directly from the disc. It helps to stop future contributions trying to change the info back to the incorrect cover info.

I'm going to go with the same theory on the date, which is easy enough to confirm on IMDB.

Actually the date is an oddity. The movie was released in 1989. The box, for both Canadian and US versions, says copyright 1986, and neither show the actual movie release year.

Yes. Use the year the film was originally released to theaters, not the year on the cover, or actually many times, on the actual film credits themselves as the copyright may be made for the year the movie was filmed, but not necessarily the year it was released.

(I swear there was one of those "updates but only on the forums that never made it into the rules" updates that stated if there was a question as to which year a film was released, use the year it was released and available to view by the general public... this would determine the official production year we use for films like Crash, where it was released at the Toronto International Film Festival which is open to the general public if you can snag a ticket to anything in 2004, but wasn't released anywhere else until 2005... in this case we'd use 2004).

Are you referring to the film Warlock starring Julian Sands?

I'd for sure use this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098622/releaseinfo?ref_=tt_ql_dt_2 as a reference rather than 1986 on the box.

Yes that movie. And I did use the 1989. I think what the 1986 is referring to is when New World acquired the rights to the character. Still odd that the actual release date wasn't there, but c'est la vie.
