| Posted: | | | | what do you do when you have a boxset of a movie example Big Momma's House / Big Momma's House 2: Double Feature 2-DVD Set 024543-528265
first disc Big Momma's House reads 1,3,4
second disc Big Momma's House 2 reads 1,2,3,4
so what do you put for the parent profile?

| Posted: | | | | I would not go removing all region codes from parent profiles since it does not say in the rules that it shouldn't be here. More times then not they will be the same on all disc. I personally use what is common on all discs included that way people can just look at the parent profile and see if they have the equipment to play the entire set or not. | | | Pete |

If they don't match over the whole box set, let them blank. BTW: I won't insist on this, but from my point of view, the region coding is a "disc feature", which are forbidden to be entered in box set parent profiles by the rules: Quote: In addition to the above, the following are not included on the box set profile: Subtitles, Audio & Disc Features. List them with the individual profiles. | | | Complete list of Common Names • A good point for starting with Headshots (and v11.1) |

My understandind of the rules is that nothing goes into the parent for such boxset except Title, Production Year, Running Time, Overview and Rating (in some cases). Anything else is out, even it is the same for all children. |

The rules should be made much clearer on this point. Not just for region coding, but for much more. The table shown on http://www.invelos.com/dvdpro/contributions/Rules.aspx?display=boxsets should be expanded with lots of additional fields, each with a clear instruction on how to handle them for these box set parent profiles. What I've never understood, for example (and I've raised that point here before) is why that page of the rules explicitly says that audio is to be excluded, but doesn't say anything about video. Surely, any reasoning that leads to excluding audio data, applies to video data as well? If you leave one out, then why not the other - that simply doesn't make any sense. I leave out both, obviously. Bottom line: if we want to leave the region field empty, let's have that page say so. How hard can it be to add one line, or even a couple? I fail to understand why things that could literally be settled in a manner of minutes drag around for years on end here. As for the original question, the answer is either leaving the field empty, or else, to list the "lowest common denominator", which would be 1/2/3 in this case. Those with a player that only plays region 4 will not be able to play the full set. Ticking region 4 on the parent implicates otherwise, so that shouldn't ever be done. | | | Last edited: by T!M |

| Posted: | | | | Since per box set rules there are no disc id's in a parent profile only child profiles attached to the parent in Box set contents, disc ids are only in the child profiles and region codes should only be attached to the child profiles.
Now if it had a bonus disc with material for both films, that disc id should be included in the parent disc section and region codes for that disc should be in the parent profile. | | | Last edited: by ateo357 |

To enter "nothing" is not really a good option since it's not possible to see whether the field was intentionally left blank or just ignored. You have to put something in the region field otherwise it will be interpreted by the program as "no region coding" which could be very misleading for potential buyers. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

It's definitely not a "feature", it's a restriction. With this statement, I would be really interested, what your definition of disc features is. Exactly... which is why I put in the region that all discs have in common. I also see a feature and a restriction as 2 different things. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | I agree with putting the lowest common denominator in the parent profile. Otherwise users may be fooled into thinking their equipment could play a certain set while in fact it cannot. |
