| Posted: | | | | There seems to be some dispute over how to interpret this rule: Quote: The Edition field is for distinguishing between DVDs, and for indicating special versions and collections (for example The Criterion Collection, Widescreen, Full-Screen Edition, Director's Cut). It's usually safe to use one of the built-in selections if appropriate. If you are using a non-standard edition, take it from the DVD box, and ensure it will help distinguish between different releases of the same title. Some interpret this rule to mean that if a release is specific to a box set, then the box set should go in the edition field. Box sets are, after all, a kind of collection and often contain "collection" in their names. What say you? |

| Posted: | | | | I just voted no to a bunch of these... there is a difference between a title and an edition. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | I'd say it's a grey area, as the Contribution Rules do not contain a definition of what a collection is.
If the title of the box is something like "The ..... Collection", then obviously that would be the Title of the parent profile, but it is less clear if and how this would/should affect the title and/or edition of the child profiles.
In any case, since the rules tell us to "ensure it will help distinguish between different releases of the same title", a condition for listing it in the Edition field is that there are other releases of the same title and in the same locality which do not share the same collection name (i.e. have no collection name or a different one).
If such (a) release(s) exist(s), then the purpose of the Edition field as defined in the rules ("distinguishing between DVDs") can be met by listing the collection name in it and I can't see a valid reason per the rules to vote No. |

As to whether or not the title of the Box Set is an edition for the child profiles, I don't believe it qualifies as it is the title of the set, and does not change the individual films. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | I can see the usefulness of this to distinguish between the edition in the set and other editions, but considering we aren't supposed to put info like "3D" in this field, I don't think that in itself is justification for using the field. |

| Posted: | | | | 3D is irrelevant, I think. The question is whether it is a collection the name of which can be used to distinguish between releases. That's what the rules say. | | | Last edited: by dee1959jay |

| Posted: | | | | Agreed, but collections are mentioned explicitly in the rules as a way to distinguish between DVDs through the Edition field. |
