How dow BYs sneak in: Preliminary: Keep in mind that the database does not maintain a correctly linked cast/crew database nor a title database, but lists the cast and crew members directly in each and every profile. If you have an actor without a BY in a profile of your local database - let's call her Terry Smith - who plays in two movies (A and B), and if you don't have another Terry Smith in your local database, and if somenone adds a valid BY for Terry Smith and contributes it for your movie A profile, then the Terry Smith in movie B gets the same BY. - This is by design because it is a workaround for the wrong database layout omitting the cast/crew db. If you try to contribute movie B afterwards, then you are blamed of adding this BY and have to document it. This is OK in more cases than it hurts, since the likelyhood of getting a BY is higher, the better known a case/crew member is. If you want to contribute such a profile, you can either safely delete the BY or you can document it. Kluge's list is not complete, but lists almost all posts of BYs, which can be linked for documentation. Anonter - more annoying - case of wrong BYs develops out of the above workaround: If you already have a wrong BY in a local profile - most of the times a legacy of the process described above - and someone contributes the correct profile (without the wrong BY) - or even deletes the wrong BY from the online database for this profile - the wrong BY is not deleted locally when you download the recent profile updates - it stays in your database until you delete it manually! |
