| Posted: | | | | The rules state that the year of production is: the year of the original theatrical release My question is what counts as a theatrical release? For example a film is shown at a film festival in 2014 and in normal cinemas in 2015. Which year belongs into the database? |

In my opinion it's the best option to take the year of the first public showing of the film, the same criterion IMDb uses for the release years in their database. So I voted 2014. | | | Recently bought films:
The Matrix [Blu-ray] | Shirins Wedding [DVD] | The Graduate [Blu-ray] | Prometheus [Blu-ray 3D] | Hwal [DVD] |

| Posted: | | | | I agree with Discostu. For me, it's about being accessible to the general public. Meaning: a festival you can buy tickets for counts, exclusive press showings don't.
And I would treat other forms of release than in a theater much the same way, i.e. - TV show: date of first airing - straight to video: date of first release on video - streaming service: date it was added to the streaming service's catalog. | | | Last edited: by dee1959jay |

Time for more profile updates? | | | 99.9% of all cat plans consist only of "Step 1." | | | Last edited: by Grendell |
