| Posted: | | | | Does "Devised By" qualify for entry in DVD Profiler? I'm asking because I'm seeing some have been contributed as "Created By" and some as the newly added "Developed By". Does it qualify for either of these, or should it be removed and kept locally only? | | | Last edited: by T!M |

| Posted: | | | | As long as it doesn't appear in the crew table in the contribution rules, "Devised by" credits should not be contributed to the online database. | | | Recently bought films:
The Matrix [Blu-ray] | Shirins Wedding [DVD] | The Graduate [Blu-ray] | Prometheus [Blu-ray 3D] | Hwal [DVD] |

| Posted: | | | | Looking at the definitions on dictionary.com I can see where devised could be considered to be similar to developed.
Devised definition. 1. to contrive, plan, or elaborate; invent from existing principles or ideas
Developed definition. 3. to elaborate or expand in detail. |

I also have some where there are both Created BY and Developed By for different people. If anything, I would equate Created and Devised , but not Developed and Devised. That said, I am not yet fully convinced that Devised By is valid for contribution. | | | I don't wanna be like everyone else, that's why I'm a mod, see? |

| Posted: | | | | I prefer merriam-webster.com because it fits with what we are crediting. Quote: Develop: a : to work out the possibilities of <develop an idea>
b : to create or produce especially by deliberate effort over time <develop new ways of doing business> <develop software> None of the definitions for devise fit what we are crediting. Quote: Devise: a : to form in the mind by new combinations or applications of ideas or principles : invent <devise a new strategy>
b archaic : conceive, imagine
c : to plan to obtain or bring about : plot <devise one's death> Just my opinion. I honestly don't care one way or the other, but Discostu is correct...the rules prohibit it being entered. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. Devised definition. 1. to contrive, plan, or elaborate; invent from existing principles or ideas
Developed definition. 3. to elaborate or expand in detail. By these definitions, it's basically the same thing, dare I say, a functional equivalent? It should probably be added to the fields for writing credits, but should also be kept local until added. |

| Posted: | | | | It's not really a common credit, so I would research the credit to see what the person actually did, then enter the credit accordingly and specify that in the notes. But, of course, as surfeur always says, it seems that the majority of users would strictly follow the rules to the letter rather than have useful data. So, I suspect that doing the above would get downvoted / blocked. | | | 99.9% of all cat plans consist only of "Step 1." |
