| Posted: | | | | After having listed this media company as "MGM Home Entertainment" for about fifteen years, I have now encountered someone who managed to change this to "Metro Goldwyn Mayer Home Entertainment", by reasoning: Quote: per rules used the full name from MGM HE logo I've checked about a hundred MGM titles in my database. In each and every case, the fine print on the back cover reads: "Distributed by MGM Home Entertainment", but yes, there's also always a small logo like this somewhere on the cover: So what is it? Should all "MGM Home Entertainment" entries be changed to "Metro Goldwyn Mayer Home Entertainment", or not? |

| Posted: | | | | My vote is for "MGM Home Entertainment". When I first started, I tried to use "Metro Goldwyn Mayer Home Entertainment" because that was my interpretation of the rule, but a few users told me this was wrong, so I started using "MGM Home Entertainment". Let's not get into hundreds of changes just to change it. Let's just change the few that have slipped through the other way. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |

| Posted: | | | | MGM Home Entertainment, naturally, as it always has been. The ©opyright text always shows "MGM Home Entertainment" This is really no different than "Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment" which appears as the ©opyright text on their releases, but also displays a logo that shows "20th Century Fox Home Entertainment" Ken has a filter that automatically converts "20th Century Fox Home Entertainment" to "Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment" on contributions... so why would this "MGM" example be any different? | | | Corey |

| Posted: | | | | Going by the rule the full name is correct. Thankfully like many other rules it has silently been ignored by the majority. But I don't see how one could vote no to the change...
I think the issue before was also that the full name could not be entered because of data field length limitations. That is no longer the case though.
But if we are going to change every entry in the database it would take thousands of contributions. That's why I personally will continue to pretend ignorance and do as it has always been done. Because there is absolutely zero gain or value added to the database by changing them just because we can. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

So what is it? Should all "MGM Home Entertainment" entries be changed to "Metro Goldwyn Mayer Home Entertainment", or not? Wow. Let me clear a few things up. I assume this is from the contribution I made back on January 18, 2013 8:43 PM1) Why did you encounter it "now" when the contribution was made 3 months ago? 2) It did not receive any No votes as I can recall. 3) I "managed" to change it because of the rules, and it didn't get any no votes. 4) I don't really give a crap either way. I was updating the profile and went through it to make a bunch of changes. my notes from the contribution: Updated Rating from coverUpdated CoOUpdated Studio from creditsUpdated MC from cover, per rules used hte full name from MGM HE logoUpdated features, has both trailer for film as well as bonus trailersUpdated colorUpdated DiscIDs from DVD5) While you didn't call me out by name, it is very easy to track down who/what you are talking about. Next time I'd suggest a friendly PM first. FWIW I have no issue with you bringing it to the forums, and I do appreciate you fixing my typo. 6) Another example of how the current rules suck. I came across that 'rule' when reading a thread. I only submitted the change based on the rules I believe to be correct. On the same contribution I updated 6 other fields that were missing from the profile, so the change to the MC was merely an afterthought about bringing the profile up to date to the latest rules. 7) Dude, this was your SEVENTH updated to this profile within the last month!! Are you padding your contirubtion totals?? | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800 BD/DVD: Oppo BDP-93 (Region Free) HD PVR: Motorola DXC3400 500GB w/ 1TB Expander BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii Remote: Logitech Harmony One w/ PS3 Adapter WHS: Acer H341 Windows Home Server |

Quote: While you didn't call me out by name, it is very easy to track down who/what you are talking about. Next time I'd suggest a friendly PM first. While there's always something specific prompting these questions in the contribution forum, it's really a generic question. I don't just want to know how to enter "MGM Home Entertainment" in this particular profile, but how to do it in *ALL* affected profiles. A PM conversation wouldn't have been able to answer that question - I wanted to know if there was a wide consensus. As such, I needed to ask the question publicly, not privately. There was that much wrong with it, I'm afraid. It's getting there, though. Quote: Another example of how the current rules suck. The wide consensus to list this as "MGM Home Entertainment", and the autofilter that changes "20th Century Fox Home Entertainment" to "Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment", does make you wonder why this particular rule is in place, yes. Who ever wanted this? | | | Last edited: by T!M |

T!M is a specialist to modify profiles, even when he does not own them. When the rule about accented names was changed to request to add spelling mistakes in names, I saw him changing several times the same profiles, removing accents one by one. He was a great supporter of this stupid rules since it allowed him to boost his contribution totals... | | | Images from movies |

Ken has a filter that automatically converts "20th Century Fox Home Entertainment" to "Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment" on contributions... so why would this "MGM" example be any different? It doesn't make sense to treat them differently and I don't understand the logic of doing so. These should be treated exactly the same. |

| Posted: | | | | The most interesting question about this topic is: Why has Ken added a filter that is violating his own contribution rules? | | | Recently bought films:
The Matrix [Blu-ray] | Shirins Wedding [DVD] | The Graduate [Blu-ray] | Prometheus [Blu-ray 3D] | Hwal [DVD] |

Yes, "20th Century Fox Home Entertainment" and "Metro Goldwyn Mayer Home Entertainment", as requested by rules: "Publisher (Content) - Usually found as a logo on the bottom of the back cover" ... "Distributor - Usually found as a logo on the bottom of the back cover"... " List such companies only once, using the name from the logo" (bolded by me) | | | Images from movies |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting TraunStaa: Quote: surfeur51, why is that so? Please elaborate Well, I thought I had explained that many times... (and many people reproached me to repeat myself). So, just for you : In credits, people's names can be written in small or capital letters, so you can find FRANCOIS BERLEAND, François BERLEAND, or François Berléand for the same actor. All those credits are correct, mean exactly the same thing, and are written without any spelling mistake. But rules ask to ignore accents when included in capital letters. So, in the database, you get three variants, Francois Berleand, François Berleand, and François Berléand, two of them with spelling mistakes, and none of those variants link together. With this 3 variants, linking, searching and filtering functions will not give correct results for this actor. I have more than 2000 names in this case in my database, and very few of the online profiles use the credited as function for them. So the online database is a huge mess, and only a huge work on local databases can make those names work correctly. | | | Images from movies |

Yes, "20th Century Fox Home Entertainment" and "Metro Goldwyn Mayer Home Entertainment", as requested by rules:
"Publisher (Content) - Usually found as a logo on the bottom of the back cover" ... "Distributor - Usually found as a logo on the bottom of the back cover"... " List such companies only once, using the name from the logo" (bolded by me) You also convienently left out the part where it also says "... or in the credit block". So, these are listed per the rules although each way can result in a different naming convention. It would appear Ken favors the credit block section given the automatic filter and that both MGM Home Entertainment and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment are how these studios are listed in the credit block. |

Rules say "usually found as a logo on the bottom of the back cover or in the credit block", then they say " using the name from the logo". They do not say to use it from the credit block. Sorry, but we are not supposed to interpret rules. | | | Images from movies |
