What's with the contribution update, adding 4 of the exact same discs that already exist in my collection?  Now I have 8 discs, with the same disc IDs as the discs that were already there.  I've already deleted the 4 that were just added, wondering why new contributions should be adding discs that are already there?  Same disc IDs, same details, 4 new discs.  Shouldn't DVD Profiler detect those discs already exist in a collection rather than trying to add 4 more?  I figured the new discs would overwrite the old, but instead it added 4 more discs...

Hard to know without getting the specifics of the release, but it appears to me that there have been two Lethal Weapon box set releases, the first one and then the 4 Film Favorites.  It appears someone created variants to match the 4 Film Releases, and you downloaded the new variants?  I'm not sure in this case what it does with the old or 'orphaned' children, I assume it does nothing.  I think you have to get remove them yourself, which is better IMO than it dong it for you so you can ensure you can copy any personal information over from the 'old' profiles to the new variants.

Most likey those were Variants. As to why: the contribution Notes of the new profiles should tell why they were deemed necessary.

Lethal Weapons 1-3 discs are part of a Triple Feature set.
Lethal Weapon 4 was entered by disc id and came in a snapper.

Thus to have the discs have the correct artwork to match that of the 4 Film Favorites: Lethal Weapon parent the children needed variants for the correct art work.

You need to delete the non variants from the box set data field, the program doesn't do it automatically.

I think this is the issue, but to be honest I'm glad it doesn't as you could lose your personal information in those profiles.  So this gives you the option of moving over any applicable information.
