| Posted: | | | | Ok, this may have already been asked but I couldn't find a thread. Should we contribute the UPC, which is found on a sticker attached to the shrinkwrap, if it's different from the UPC found on the cover art?
For example, BBY has three timed exclusives which will get a general release in several months from now; Andromeda Strain, Munich, and Sneakers Blu-rays. The BBY exclusives have a sticker UPC label stuck to the shrinkwrap, which is a different UPC, as the UPC found on the actual cover art underneath. The UPC on the cover art is the same UPC which will be used for the general release. Thus, these are the same items as what will be used for the general releases.
Andromeda Strain BD (BBY) - 0-25192-27636-1 Andromeda Strain BD (GEN) - 0-25192-11727-5
Munich BD (BBY) - 0-25192-27633-0 Munich BD (GEN) - 0-25192-04777-0
Sneakers BD (BBY) - 0-25192-27635-4 Sneakers BD (GEN) - 0-25192-23156-8
The current database has both UPCs listed for Munich and the BBY sticker UPCs for Sneakers and Andromeda Strain. |

| Posted: | | | | you can create a new entry for the new UPC - grandfather over everything except the rear jacket art./& maybe disc info .that you can do with a scanner / and PC software and later enter the new rear cover art and check for differant disc ID info ..for your new entry ..
Idea behind this is when you scan a upc sticker ( in the store or on the road with your smart phone when you are away from your data ., no matter what is under the sticker the approved new UPC ( which is usually approved the same day and not 8 days later ..) So now when you use your smart phone to capture the pre approved upc code ., the info that comes back to you will be real and approved
.. and that is what we really want here at Invelos Profiler .. | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

| Posted: | | | | I think the question is, what should we do about the UPC on the rear cover art? The UPC on the rear cover art does not match the BBY UPC, because that UPC came off with the shrink rap. There's no practical way to scan the correct UPC. |

| Posted: | | | | you'r right I read it too quickly .. and thought the sticker was placed over top of the old .. which I have found many times in the past ..
so in that case the 'cellophane sticker' would be for store stock only and would not reflect the true meaning of the attached to dvd art work upccode .. | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

| Posted: | | | | So it's okay that the UPC on the scanned cover art doesn't match the database UPC of this title? |

| Posted: | | | | If you submit a new contribution where the UPC does not match the cover scans, it will generally be declined. Only if a UPC is already in use by a different title or cannot be validated there can be exceptions by submitting by disc ID AND providing a thorough explanation in your contribution notes. The first of these two situations will be tackled by the new variants feature in the upcoming 3.9 release. | | | Last edited: by dee1959jay |

So what do we do now in this case of store exclusive where the "correct" UPC is on sticker and there's no practical way to include it on the cover scan? |

| Posted: | | | | I typically remove any UPC stickers and go with what's on the case. My thinking is that will hook me into the "main" profile as much as possible rather than some odd variant that won't be updated as frequently. I have no idea if there's any truth to that or not. And I don't care. I don't like stickers on my cases. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

| Posted: | | | | That wasn't my question.
I have the variant and I want to update the cover art. The cover art has the non-variant UPC, however. Am I screwed? Is the BBY variant UPC stuck with the generic rear cover art forever? |

| Posted: | | | | I'd say: - if you have already removed the shrink wrap with the store-exclusive UPC, there is little you can do in terms of contributions; - if you have not removed it yet, try to scan it with the UPC sticker. If you can't, you might try to take a digital photo of the back cover with UPC sticker and then edit that until it is properly cropped. You can then submit it as a new contribution by the store-exclusive UPC. |

| Posted: | | | | BTW if the cover art of the store-exclusive release is significantly different from the general release's cover, then the new variants feature in the upcoming 3.9 release will allow you to submit your copy by a variant of the general release's UPC. But only if it's significantly different, judging by what Ken has announced so far.
If the disc contents are different from the general release, you will be able to use the 3.9 variants feature anyway. | | | Last edited: by dee1959jay |

I have in the past made a note that the UPC sticker was on the shrink wrap (Sometimes include a link to picture of the shrink wrap) in the notes and it usually gets accepted. |
