| Posted: | | | | Over the course of 2 days searching, I have been unable to find a definitive answer.
This has been driving me crazy for some time now. Let's see if we can come to a majority consensus on this issue, because we know invelos will not take a stand or update the rules to put this to rest.
When you make your decision, please copy those parts into your reply. When I see this fall off Today's Active Topics, I will compile the list and give the results. If the results are inconclusive or non-existent, I won't say anymore about it.
Main Feature (3D BD) Main Feature (BD 3D) Main Feature (3D BD - Part 1) Main Feature (BD 3D - Part 1) Main Feature (3D BD) (Part 1) Main Feature (BD 3D) (Part 1)
Part 1 and Part 2 is sort of covered in the rules.
Or in place of BD in every case the word Blu-ray? This would hold for the Blu-ray only versions as well, (BD), (Blu-ray) without the 3D.
DVDs would also be included for the part info.
Some discs have the 3D and 2D versions on the same disc, so we should also add 3D & 2D, 3D&2D, 3D + 2D, 3D+2D, 3D / 2D, 3D/2D, 3D - 2D, 3D-2D into the mix)
Do we want Disc Info for all Digital Copies, not including ultraviolet, or just the ones that have a physical disc and let the Feature/Digital Copy cover the non physical disc and ultraviolet versions? So I guess the options would be: Disc Info for physical disc Digital Copies Disc Info for physical & non-physical disc Digital Copies
If we are going to cover them under Disc Info then do we want: (DC) (Digital Copy)
Also, some have the DVD and Digital Copy on the same disc and if we are using Disc Info to cover physical Digital Copies: (DVD + DC) (DVD + Digital Copy) (DVD+DC) (DVD+Digital Copy) (DVD / DC) (DVD / Digital Copy) (DVD/DC) (DVD/Digital Copy) (DVD) (DC) (DVD) (Digital Copy) (DVD) + (DC) (DVD) + (Digital Copy) (DVD)+(DC) (DVD)+(Digital Copy) (DVD) / (DC) (DVD) / (Digital Copy) (DVD)/(DC) (DVD)/(Digital Copy) (DVD) + DC (DVD) + Digital Copy (DVD) / DC (DVD) / Digital Copy
Sorry to give you so many choices, but I have seen them all over the place. We could even replace the + and / with a - or & for some instances.
Edit: Should have added a part about Bonus Feature discs. Some discs come labeled with Special Features or just plain Features. Should we rename Bonus Features with whatever the disc is labeled or just leave them alone? | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. | | | Last edited: by mreeder50 |

Probably because, even out loud, I never say "BD" when I'm referring to one. I always call it "Blu-ray". Pretty much every site that mentions Blu-rays, does so as well. Example: it's blu-ray.com, not bd.com. Amazon.com has a "DVD & Blu-ray" department, not a "DVD & BD" department - and it's the same for pretty much every other webshop. None of them ever refers to these discs as "BD's", so I don't see why we should. If I went into a shop and asked the staff: "Do you have any BD's?", most of them wouldn't know what I was talking about. So whenever I've needed this, I've gone with "Main Feature (3D Blu-ray)". Quote: Do we want Disc Info for all Digital Copies No empty Disc ID's for digital copies whatsoever - note that the program can't read them, so even if we'd choose to list it, it'd be empty. So it's pointless and looks ugly - let's not go there. The feature checkbox is enough. Not that it means anything, but I've removed a bunch of these, and those removals have consistently been approved. Quote: Should we rename Bonus Features with whatever the disc is labeled or just leave them alone? No, let's not copy a thousand different descriptions (in different languages, too!) into the Disc Info - let's just consistently stick with the standard "Bonus Materials" label as provided by the program itself. Quoting mreeder50: Quote: Let's see if we can come to a majority consensus on this issue, because we know invelos will not take a stand or update the rules to put this to rest. I feel your pain, but I'm guessing a consensus on these things is pretty much impossible... Good luck, though! | | | Last edited: by T!M |

| Posted: | | | | I have very little opini9on on any of this, but I agree with T!M regarding not listing pure digital copies.
Additionally, rather than BD, I'd like to see BR (as opposed to the longer Blu-ray). |

I only use BD because that is just how most seem to be done. |

| Posted: | | | | I don't like the idea of written out "Blu-ray" for descriptions... I am fine with the current BD (why go through all the trouble of changing all those profiles now!?!)... can't stand digital copy being added to descriptions... one of my pet peeves. | | | Pete |

I agree, however what I would like to see is another check box in features for "Digital Copy Download" to separate those that are disc based and those that are UV/iTunes etc... A check box added since sometimes a set comes with both. But I agree it does not need to be in the disc info I do like "Blu-ray" as opposed to BD better, but like I said above I put BD because that is how most people do it. It really has not been a big enough deal to me to even bring it up. |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Addicted2DVD: Quote: (why go through all the trouble of changing all those profiles now!?!)... As I've been using "Blu-ray" since day one, I wouldn't have to change a single thing. It's not like I was proposing a change here: this is about a field where there's no consensus about how to fill it. Different people use different labels. I'm just saying how I've chosen to do it. Speaking of "all the trouble of changing all those profiles" suggests that they're all done the same way right now, and that someone's proposing a change. That's not the case. They're currently not all done the same way - instead, the lack of consistency is why this thread was started. So it's not about ""all the trouble of changing all those profiles" - it's about changing part of the profiles to gain consistency. And of course, you'll want it your way, I'll want it my way, someone else even wants to go with a third option in the form of "BR", nobody wants to budge, and that's why such a consensus will probably not be reached until Ken forces one down our throats. If only he did - the only kind of "consensus" that works around here - but he probably won't. I fully understand that chances of us as users reaching a helpful consensus are pretty slim - I already pointed that out in my first post. What I don't understand is black-and-white thinking like this: automatically assuming that, just because you've chosen to handle something one way, EVERYONE, spread over the various regions and localities, has made exactly the same choice. But that's what a remark like "why go through all the trouble of changing all those profiles now!?!" seems to indicate - you assume that they're all done "your" way. But they're not - that's one of the reasons we're talking about it. The fact is: if we ever reach any form of consensus, on this matter or any other, there are always going to be a number of profiles that are going to have to be changed to reflect that new consensus. Depending on what choices they've made earlier, some people may have little to change, others a lot. Gaining consistency means cleaning up the inconsistencies. That's just what it is, can't be helped. Of course, if all parties keep clinging to their own methods, sometimes not even because it may be the best method, but simply the one that prevents them from "all the trouble of changing all those profiles", then consensus will simply never happen. And that is, unfortunately, probably exactly how this topic will turn out as well, without any consensus, we'll all just keep handling this in different ways, with an inconsistent mess in the online database as a result... | | | Last edited: by T!M |

| Posted: | | | | But it isn't something I chosen Tim... it is just how all the profiles have came down from the online. I have never touched this for blu-ray... but it is the only way I have seen it for the up over 200 blu-ray profiles that I have downloaded (using BD for disc discription). | | | Pete |

And similarly, I have seen plenty come down with "Blu-ray" in them. Maybe you're lucky in this regard in that you primarily own Blu-ray's from one locality, and are therefore less prone to experience such differences. With DVD Profiler it's always a mistake to think that what anyone sees personally - just a tiny, tiny bit of the entire database, often further "coloured" by being from a certain locality with a certain group of users with certain preferences - automatically reflects the worldwide and universal "truth". It doesn't. Again, the whole reason why we're talking about it, is because there is no consistency. | | | Last edited: by T!M |

| Posted: | | | | I never said it was or wasn't consistent for the online Tim... all I said is what I personally have only seen... and why I personally would only ever vote to have it as BD. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | I prefer BD over Blu-ray, and that is how I will submit them (unless stated by Invelos) that way. However, if a profile already has Blu-ray in the Description I will change it locally and lock it down.
I use (BD), (DVD), (3D BD) If the bonus disc(s) are different than the profile I add the type of disc to the description. Of course I keep this local.
I'd say the vast majority is (BD) over (Blu-ray). I too can see the need for consistency, but we aren't every gonig to get that, so why bother with the online? It's a simple fix to change it to your local and lock it. | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800 BD/DVD: Oppo BDP-93 (Region Free) HD PVR: Motorola DXC3400 500GB w/ 1TB Expander BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii Remote: Logitech Harmony One w/ PS3 Adapter WHS: Acer H341 Windows Home Server |

| Posted: | | | | Blu-ray is just the name of the technology. What we want here is to diffentiate different medias. So therefore it's Blu-ray Disc = BD. |

Without this info how would you know if the Digital Copy is a media which is usable as long as you have the it or a Download Code which is usable maybe just for a year? Features checkbox doesn't alone give us this info. |
