Common name George O'Hanlon[,Jr.]

Actor George O'Hanlon[,Jr.] - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0641191/

A comment in a thread popped up and while back the CLT was pretty clear that the common name for George O'Hanlon, Jr. and BY's were created for his father and him since the both seemed to be George O'Hanlon.  I just reanalyzed the CLT and it appears that may not be the case anymore so I am opening this thread to determine if we have BY's that we do not need anymore.

I was able to stream and confirm - War and Remembrance - Episode 11 - George O'Hanlon, Jr.

He is also in episode 12, it being a mini-series I suspect the credit is the same.  But if someone can confirm episode 12 that would be great

I really ask me for what this is good. At the moment they have a BY for the Senior 1912 and a BY for the Junior 1953. All perfect. Why to put BY's on the invalid list, we all know these BY's come over and over again and again. You load a profile for something and have it again, also it is forbidden. In my opition a given BY should never be removed again, it just complicates things and the search results are not better, with BY or with another common name xxxx, Jr.

I ask me sometimes if people search these things if they are bored, have nothing to do and generate this way a lot of work that brings not a better result.

Well the BY's never get removed from the DB.

But it's basically the rules and maybe the rules need adjusted.  The basic problem is that since rules state how to determine the common name, "Jr" is the common name.  And the rules state to only use BY's to differentiate people with the same name.  So people should not be using the BY for the father anymore unless they change the rule wording.

But the BY's are in the DB still

Hi Scooter

That is exactly one of the problems, that they are never removed. Also a lot of films are not changed now due to this change because they are from nobody maintained, the BY's keep to stay in the database in a lot of films. Then you clone or load a profile and have it again and again in your database, forbidden list does not help much about this. I understand the system about common names and BY's.

I more ask me why to start exactly on two actors a common name thread when they are already separated and search results are good. There are hundreds of other Crew and Cast not separated at all, 5 actors with the same common name, no BY because you don't find for them any BY. Here is much more work to do than change things that already work fine for search results, what was the case here.

This is more what makes me angry. I just changed Monday and Tuesday a lot of films so they all have the correct BY from senior and junior. The contributions are even not finished yet, but have all yes and will pass. And even not finished yet again a change that brings no better end result for the end user.

I agree, ultimately we need a better linking system.

Yeah the problem was that other thread came up and I looked at the CLT data again and it was clear that the CLT data was a lot different.  So I opened the thread.  The thing is someone would have found the common name change sooner or later, and then would have modified profiles anyway and would have been within the rules.

I had to change quite a few also, I was hoping the common name would have stayed the same.

We really need a linking system where the linkage does not change (common name). But in the current system that is the case.

A few months ago I bought the box War and Remembrance Ep1 - Ep 12. In Episode 12 indeed George O'Hanlon is credited "George O'Hanlon, Jr." as  Lt. George Puckett (Barracuda)
You can put him on the list above.
