| Posted: | | | | Something puzzles me greatly about the DVD I own, and the cover, specifically the back cover, that is in the DVD Profiler database for this DVD. I have this DVD, the UPC/ISBN numbers match up exactly, and yet the back cover for this DVD that is in the database shows that this movie is (was) in Anamorphic Widescreen format, yet the DVD I hold in my hand with the identical UPC/ISBN numbers is Full Screen ONLY. If the studio did this, then I feel cheated and royally pissed about it. This absolutely sucks. I always try to buy Widescreen whenever possible, and I thought because this DVD was only available in Full Screen, this would be the only chance I would have to own it (this was well before I ever conceived of buying into blu-ray). I never even looked that intently at the back cover in the database until I finally decided to upgrade my Full Screen DVD to blu-ray in order to get it in Widescreen, and sell my Full Screen copy. Then I saw it: Anamorpic Widescreen 2.35:1 (+ Full Screen.....must've been a flipper disc). And I'm thinking to myself: What cheap rotten bastards to do something like that.
Whoever owns this on DVD in Widescreen format: I envy you for all the time I owned this in Full Screen format when it originally shipped in Anamorphic Widescreen. | | | Time is the fire in which we burn. (Soran) | | | Last edited: by kd5 |

| Posted: | | | | Sony/Columbia Pictures was well known for dropping the widescreen version/side when they would re-issue them. Why, who knows. So the original release contained both formats whereas later releases contained only the full screen format, even though the UPC# remained the same. |

| Posted: | | | | Yes. Don't know if the disc was originally a flipper or it had both Widescreen and Full Screen on one side, but it's been just Full Screen since at least 04-07-2008 (when I purchased it from Amazon). It appears the only way to get it in Widescreen format now is to buy it on Blu-Ray. I don't doubt Sony wasn't the only company who ever dealt underhanded tactics to an unsuspecting public, but it will forever remain a dirty deed and totally unnecessary. | | | Time is the fire in which we burn. You can still find old dvds at used stores, amazon and ebay (although with the shared UPC, you need a good seller who will contact you and actually look at the dvd for you to make sure you get the right one). Ordering online is a gamble, but play smart and you can get widescreen. This happened to tons of titles, and only a few got WS SE re-issues (and those had different upc's!) Most got the FS shaft, and many aren't on blu yet either (The Fan, Sheena). At least with 13th Floor you have a HD alternative and get some of the features with it. I'd go blu anyway, but if you don't have blu I understand the added annoyance of this. | | | Last edited: by bigdaddyhorse |
