The needed info is to be found at the bottom of the DVDProfiler program-window.
There you will find a line saying "Connected to 'XXXXX'(192.168.172.YYY).
The number in brackets is the server's IP-Address the name that replaces the Xs is the server-name.

DVDProfiler must be running on your PC when trying to connect.

For sure the pc-version is running and I tried both,  first by name and then by ip.

But he accepts only the name.  When i choose the ip,  i get a message like : try later,  fault data input.

What are you entering for the server name and IP address?

You might already know this but just to clear the air of any possibilities, make sure the server name is typed in without the ' ' and the IP address without the ( ).

Also, you might want to check to make sure your firewall or a router isn't preventing the program from establishing a connection.

Huh?
Without open ports your computer wouldn't be able to communicate at all.
Any application that is accessing your internal and/or external (Internet) network requires at least partially opened ports (Listening Mode).

I agree that it can be dangerous, at least if you don't know what you are doing.
That's why you shouldn't mess with your network-settings if you don't exactly know how to.

But generally it can be said that within your local network an open port does no harm. Open ports on your external network access point (Router) should be monitored though.
