| | Posted: | | | | As we learned in another thread "Knight Rider" has found a very innovative way of sorting its episodes onto the different discs. On the discs it has the Pilot-episode somewhere on disc 7.
So my question now:
If we profile this how do we handle the sorting?
Do we use the logical sort (Pilot = Episode 1)?
or
Do we sort the episodes as we find them on the discs (Pilot = Episode 20)?
This question is for the parent-profile only, when doing the profiles on disc-level I'd consider it to be self-evident that the episode-listing of a disc has to mirror its actual content. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!

You have the order on DVD, you have the original airing order and you have the one which actually makes sense - all of which can differ. Take classic Star Trek for example. The first ever aired episode was The Man Trap. But that was an executive decision. TMT was chosen because it had a "real alien monster" in it. The actual pilot* was Where No Man Has Gone Before (where Bones is not even ship's doctor yet) which was aired as third episode. *Add to that that WNMHGB was already the second pilot, with The Cage being the first which has an original airdate of 25 Oct. 1993. The original airing of Leverage's first season was completely random, it was fixed on DVD. It's interesting someone brought up Star Trek. I found the most enjoyable way to watch it if you're going to watch every episode, is in production order. You can't do that if you don't have some source for that info. This information is easily found on the web and it's fairly simple to copy and paste into DVDP and keep it local for those who want it. One of my favorite TV shows is The Prisoner (1967). For that series, Wikipedia lists 5 different viewing orders. It's almost become a right of passage for fans to create their own!
