Hey @all

Google & Forum Search couldn't help me to answer my question.

How do we handle undecided common names?

To make it a bit more clear:
In fact the CLT results are not always as clear as we would like it.
So we made a lot of common name threads to find the most credited name of a Crew or Cast member.
But sometimes this common name threads couldn't help, too.
What happens for example if we had an actor with only 2 movies in our database and he is credited different in both movies, like John Doe and Johnny Doe?

Possible ways to set a common name in this special case could be:
Count the profiles.
Use the oldest movie credit: First come, first served.
Use the latest movie credit.

Maybe there is already an official workaround?

No official workaround, no.

In cases where there is a tie between the number of titles, we generally tend to look at the largest number of profiles as a tiebreaker.

As for common name threads that are, as of yet, inconclusive - that's another matter. Generally, we usually still go by what the CLT numbers say - although even that isn't as simple as it looks: some people like to go by the "raw" numbers, while others use "cleaned up" CLT numbers corrected for obvious errors like missing original titles, incorrect production years or countless TV child profiles.

As T!M said... go to the number of profiles.

And Also as T!M said, if the threads are inconclusive, we use the CLT.

The rules state we need to document where the CLT results are incorrect in order to set the common name to something other than what the CLT states.  So an inconclusive thread would mean we have to use the CLT.

And of course in case of a tie in titles the number of profiles is the tie breaker.  That is true whether using the CLT or a common name thread.

Thanks guys for your fast replies!

Strange...this seems to be one of the rare threads, in which all have the same opinion
