| Posted: | | | | Is it possible to connect to the DVD Profiler database, without DVD Profiler running?
I'm a starting programmer, and i'd like to build a website that dynamically contains my entire DVD Profiler-profile, so thats why...
I would also want to know what kind of DBMS DVD Profiler is using. |

| Posted: | | | | No, this isn't possible. DVD Profiler uses DBISAM locally and other products on the servers. | | | Invelos Software, Inc. Representative |

For this you can use phpdvdprofiler or phpmyprofiler But both are not working with the new DVD Profiler 3 export data yet, only with the "old" 2.x data. Regards Sebastian | | | Never argue with an idiot. He brings you down to his level, then beats you with experience.

Think about the report possibilities opend by MS Access accessing your own collection. Or think about all possible third party tools. BTW. the protection of the online database from abuse is a weak argument to deny lokal third party DB access. The online database is protected good enough by the contribution system. |

It is, if (a) you pay ElevateSoft (makers of DBISAM) a lot of money for a copy of the ODBC driver and (b) you know the password used to protect the database. (b) is known only to Invelos. | | | Doug

As this requires only reading the DB, the detour via XML export (which has become quite fast in v3) isn't such a big deal. Writing back certain data on the other hand... Did Ken actually make this argument, or is this an "interpretation" by someone else? | | | Matthias |
