| Posted: | | | | Suppose for a moment that you have a DVD with a root / title menu showing selections for four different features:
1) Football 2) Basketball 3) Golf 4) Baseball
And one of your possibilities is "play all".
Is this "scene access" or something else?
There is no menu selection for "chapters".
Next scenario:
"Big Football Game" DVD has a root menu / title menu as follows
1st Quarter 2nd Quarter 3rd Quarter 4th Quarter
and: Play all
It's all part of the same game.
Scene access, or something else?
No selection for chapters here either. |

| Posted: | | | | While the first example is not, the football quarters sounds pretty much like scene access to me.
It is the same game, just a different timecode within the "story". | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

In some of the instances I'm dealing with something that is a distinct linear timeline, with chapter stops where you can jump forward and back once you get the "play all" going. The other complicating factor is that the disc is so badly authored that the menu structure is broken. You see things that look like chapters you could click on, but nothing happens. Only the "play all" works. Alternatively I can click on "navigate to" with my player, select a title, have the chapter flyout menu present chapters, and then go directly to a specific scene. But that is hardly an experience that the average user would equate with scene access. |
