When you have a disc made up of separate or combined newsreel segments, and the source of the newsreel footage is identified in-line, is the newsreel company considered a ...

Theatrical Release Studio
Production Company
Publisher
Licensor
Distributor

I'm seeing frequent credits in my 24-disc set profile for prominent newsreel companies of the day:

Hearst Metrotone News
Pathé News
Paramount News
Kinograms
(none for Fox News yet, but lots of discs still to go)

If you can find evidence in the DVD materials the newsreel producers gave permission for use then maybe Licensor.

Otherwise, no credit, as the companies you list had nothing to do with the making of the disc you have in hand.

Since these will likely vary between all the disparate shorts, I'd recommend just not bothering with them.

I was under the impression that the newsreel companies were actually involved in the making of the film. I didn't think that not being involved in the pressing or distributing of discs disqualified you from receiving any sort of credit.

It doesn't, but how would you know if the footage was produced for the film, or was merely "used" from some other source? It's up to you of course to do the research if you want to take on the task..
