Hi!

I wanted to add two profiles of  DVDs I recently bought with my DVD-Profiler on my Nexus 7.

These are the UPCs:

3387010013877 (Subconscious Cruelty, Locality: Sweden)
3387010014430 (The Beast in Heat, Locality: Sweden)

Every time I try, I only get the message "No results found". The strange thing is, that I could add the DVDs with my DVD-Profiler on PC.

I tested a couple of other DVDs / BluRays, and all worked without problems on my Nexus 7.

Are there maybe different profile-lists for the PC- and the Android-version of DVDP?

Can other users reproduce this?

chris.

It looks that way.

Only tired with "Subconscious Cruelty", but yes.
Searching by title brings up 4 titles in PC but only 3 titles in Android, the swedish version is missing.

It does seem that the android and iOS versions accesses a different list to the desktop (tried the first UPC on the iOS version and it doesn't show there either) but I'd suggest it's a glitch of some sort rather than deliberate exclusion.

I can add profiles for titles that were created after the profile for Sunconcious Cruelty was accepted into the database, which suggests to me for some reason the process used to create/access the android/iOS versions hasn't picked it up.

Best to raise a support ticket with Invelos.

Thank you for your replies!

I will open a technical support ticket.

@Mithi: I would have preferred to pick other example movies than these two "pearls", but unfortunately adding all other movies I tried, worked without problems ;-)

Answer of technical support:

"Titles marked as adult must be added from the desktop version."

Wtf ?!

I tried several other "Adult" titles from my collection and yes - they were not found on DVDP-A.

I guess, I have to post a feature request. In my opinion adding adult titles has to be possible with every DVDProfiler, at least as an configurable option...

Cheers

chris.

Ahh that actually makes sense, as Apple has issues  with adult content in the app store, if the app could add Adult stuff directly then they'd be in potential breach of their requirements and the app could be pulled.

Not sure if Google works the same way, but wouldn't surprise me if they did and if they don't then it's probably because it's easier to maintain one database for both platforms than it is two different ones.

Interesting theory, Lithurge! But I'm not convinced that this really is the problem. I mean, there's actually no adult content inside the DVDP-app when it's sold. You can download adult content after buying it, OK. But you can also download and view adult stuff with an alternative web browser. I don't have an iPhone, but I read that you can install alternative browsers - just like on Android devices...

And the funniest thing is, you can even add profiles from porn movies or other bad bad films that were not labeled as "Adult" - so restricting access to adult titles is no 100% guarantee that adult content can't get added afterwards...

Hm. Maybe someone from Invelos can explain, why this restriction was implemented.

You're right only Invelos can explain the exact reason, however, ignoring the flaws of the way it's handled (in my response to your other thread on this I did point out that the database is user built so relies on us correctly marking content as adult or otherwise)  they obviously feel there is a reason they can't allow us to add adult titles.

Maybe it's commercial, it's clear that from a US perspective being labelled adult has an impact on sales which is why many studios go out of their way to avoid NC17 ratings.

Comparing Profiler to a web browser really isn't quite right, web browsers are designed to give access to the internet, which is pretty much impossible to control access to without some serious censorship being applied. Even then it's pretty easy to work around, so expecting a web browser to be able to control this is ridiculous and no commercial firm would want to block access to this type of app as it would be deemed censorious.
