Hello. The film's opening credits read:
"Laurence Olivier Presents Richard III by William Shakespeare"
"With some interpolations by David Garrick Colley Cibber etc."
In the current profile I'm looking at (and it seems many other profiles for this film), Garrick and Cibber are credited as screenwriters. Research shows that David Garrick and Colley Cibber were born in 1717 and 1671, respectively. So it doesn't look like they wrote the screenplay for this film. It seems both gentlemen did some rewriting and reshuffling of Shakespeare in their time and Olivier used some of their work in his film. Should these gentlemen be credited at all? If so, as writers, screenwriters, or original material by? |
