| Posted: | | | | I don't understand why the DVDPro standard seems to be to list the names of the Creator(s) of a TV Series BEFORE the Episode Writers? To me, the important episode data is (1) the cast, (2) the director, and (3) the writers (including story by and or teleplay by -- however they are listed, i.e. screenwriter). I find it annoying to have to scroll down past series creators to find out who wrote a particular episode of a TV series. If we go by the credit lists, the writers are always listed above the creators -- and immediately below the directors. Creators come somewhere further down in the priority given by the series producers.
Opening credits are usually given in reverse order for the crew: Editor, Production Designer, DP, producers/executive producers, series creators, episode writers, and finally directors. Writers are almost ALWAYS joined with the directors -- creators come afterward.
Why is the DVDPro Standard to show Creators after Directors and only THEN Writers?
I know what I will do with my personal database -- but then I don't contribute very often any more as I once did (or visit the forums as often, either.) | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? "Created By" usually is among the first credits of an episode, while the Writers are listed shortly before the Directors (usually the last entry of the opening credits). DVDProfiler simply lists them in the order they are credited. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

I think I see what you mean -- that the writing section is unique and only follows the director section in the database.
However, TV credits seem to be listed in reverse order of the value of the role in the opening credits: Directors last, writers next to last, then producers, then DOP, then Production Designer, editor, and maybe composer. Given this reverse order, why wouldn't the writers be given higher priority than creators? | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges. DVDProfiler simply lists them in the order they are credited. Okay, I get it. It looks like I will have to content myself with my local database ordered as is useful to me without ever contributing. I don't care as much who created the series (since it never changes from episode to episode). The writer of the episode is what interests me.
Thanks Lewis. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges. I don't have to show you any stinking badges. DVD Profiler user since June 15, 2001 |
