SOLVED: How to re-number profiles in order to insert new entries with lower numbers? |

I have just discovered that I made a mistake some time ago: I did not number 3 titles in my collection when adding them (as part of a box set).
Instead I gave a collection number to the box set, that contains them.
I would like now to give numbers to these 3 titles, and none to the box set, which means I need to move up all subsequent numbers up by 2 units.
So entry #1286 needs to be renumbered to #1288, and so on for all following entries.
The problem is that my current last entry is #2426, and if I have to manually correct about 1200 entries, it will take me hours to do so!
Is there a way to do that faster?
Renumbering after deleting entries is well documented, but renumbering, in order to add entries, seems to be explained nowhere, or I could not find that info...

Does "add" correspond with the Purchase Date? Because there is an option for that in the renumbering dialog. If this isn't to your liking you would need to employ the plug-in Bulk Edit. BE has an option to "increment Slot". That means you would have to copy the Collection Number to Slot, increment it by 2, and copy it back. If you are already using Slot you would have to copy that somewhere else beforehand. | | Posted: | | | | Well, if the way you want to renumber is by one of options in the Renumber... dialog box, inserting can be very straightforward -- as in no need for a plug-in.
First establish what is het highest number still correct. If I read your post correctly that would be 1285.
Insert your disks and renumber with the dialog box, just remember to fill in "do not renumber below" with "1285". The renumbering algorthm will renumber the rest in the indicated way. | | | Eric

| | Posted: | | | | Thanks to you both! To begin with, as I work with PCs for a living, I would say that " backup" is (nearly) my middle name!  I made one before even starting this thread here. And your advice inspired me to find this very rapid solution: - I first gave the same number to the 3 titles to insert. I used the number of the box set, that was not necessary any more, that is 1285. (and the Box set number was set to " none".) - Then I did a partial reassignment of all numbers above 1284, with " Eliminate gaps" and " Eliminate duplicates" options. Therefore if you forget to add three titles in between 599 and 603 say ,... If the 599 and 603 have (i.e.) sept 17th to Oct 1st 2004 as POS date make your new collection titles the relative same time slot ..

it will then just slip right in ... doesn't this mean you have to allocate a number for every single profile and not have dvd profiler do all this for you? Sounds very labour intensive! Just give all the profiles a purchase date - yes tell dvd profiler to allocate a number sorted by purchase date - much easier. if you need to add a new profile in the middle then just do what you have done - give it a purchase date & reallocate numbers. after all it's not like you use the number to display the profiles in any particular order - I have mine sorted by profile name in dvd profiler | | | | Paul |
