as a registered user of the program you aren't restricted to posting in the new user forum, you can post in the iOS tech support forum. May get a quicker response as people are more likely to see it there.

As to your question I've just tried this with my iPod and the custom genre I entered on a profile transferred across ok. Under the search function you need to select add a filter, change the filter type to genre and then scroll to the bottom of the list to find the custom genre options.
