| Posted: | | | | I have a bad feeling this is gonna go back and forth (with contributions and title changes to those profiles). My preference is with the semicolon. | | | My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT. FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that. Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it! |

| Posted: | | | | Your second choice would not be an option.
If the colon is eliminated, per capitalization rules, the option would need to be: Oz the Great and Powerful. |

Regarding the colon: It is neither a sequel nor does the colon show up on the cover, so IMO the usage of a colon would be incorrect here. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | Other Disney titles, whose covers also do not use a colon, are entered into the database with one. For example, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Although this eventually came out with sequels, when it was a stand alone film, it was entered as seen above. Why should this title be any different? Edit: I took a quick glance at similar titles in my collection - almost every one of them uses the colon. There has been numerous discussions about colon (US profiles) and dash (non-US profiles) in the past. I will post them as I come across them: http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=419998&PageNum=1 | | | Last edited: by Kathy |

Edit: I took a quick glance at similar titles in my collection - almost every one of them uses the colon. I am sorry, but the mere fact that they were accepted doesn't mean they are correct. The rules, in my opinion, are fairly clear when it comes to the use of the colon in titles... Episode descriptors are part of the title; separate them with a colon and space; e.g. "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock". For multiple descriptors, use a colon and space for each break. For music and stage performance DVDs, use the performer or group name followed by the DVD title, separated with a colon and space. For example: "U2: Rattle and Hum", "Ellen Degeneres: The Begining". Annual DVDs such WWE or NFL Films titles if the year is included it is part of the title and should not be included in the Descriptor field. For Example Title: Year.I know that there are some users who have taken to using the colon for, what they consider subtitles, but that usage is not in the rules. Per the rules, the title is 'OZ the Great and Powerful'. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | Based on the other thread I posted above - there was not a single person who voted that there should NOT be either a colon or dash:
Snatch: Schweine und Diamanten (with colon) (34) Snatch: Schweine und Diamanten (with hyphen) (51) Snatch Schweine und Diamanten (without any separator) (0) Other (1)
It will be interesting to see how this thread goes. | | | Last edited: by Kathy |

If there are any sequels to this using the same pattern it can always be changed later. But I don't see what makes a description into a subtitle. It all runs together quite fine unlike Pirates of... | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

This thread does not limit itself to foreign subtitles. There are discussions and links that are relative to this thread. I suggest that people go through their collections and see how they are set up. The few I checked has the vast majority using the colon as a separator. Hopefully, if the majority decides to eliminate the colon, they are willing to do the work on updating the database. I have enough work to do on my collection and changing titles is not something I am willing to do. So, here's one more area I'm going to lock locally. |

It is generally not an area I pay much attention to, nor am I consistent I'm sure. But I thought we were discussing how to enter it for the online, not our personal collections. All my titles are locked btw and have been so for years. I'm just still curious what makes this a subtitle, I have read no explanation yet. Is it the large/small letters, or something else? | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |
