| Posted: | | | | How would I go about splitting my collection into different collections? For example, I would like to be able to set up one for films/TV, a second for music DVD and a third for DVD-Audio etc.
Whilst I am at it, is DVD-Audio supported? The numbers are not recognized, and again adding hundreds of these manually would be a terrible hassle | | | Last edited: by neilwilkes |

Alternatively, - use Tags for subcategories - add custom Collectiion categories (besides Owned / Ordered / Wish List). Right-click any of the existing categories / Other / Edit Collection Categories.
DVD-Audio is not supported by default. |

| Posted: | | | | There are two ways of doing it. Which way you choose is yours to choose.
1. Within your database, create custom collections for each type. You can create your own collection beyond the standard ones via the menu: Collections -> Other -> Edit collection categories... Once created, you can move your profiles around. You can also mass move them by flagging the ones you want to move, then via the menu Collections -> Flagged -> Move to.
2. Create a different database for each collection. You can create different databases via the menu File -> Open database... It is however it bit more cumbersome to move profiles between databases (easiest way is to dump it into a backup file, and restore from that backup in the other db). But it is a good solution if you want to catalogue part of your collection really privately, for instance.
About DVD audio: your collection can be any of anything you like. I've even seen someone's wine collection done this way, by clever use of the translation files. However, the central online database from which you can download profiles is DVD video only (which includes BluRay and HD DVD). Nothing else, no laserdisc, music, games, ... | | | Eric

| Posted: | | | | Thank you for the fast replies - it is greatly appreciated even though it is not really what I wanted to hear.
Is it possible to get DVD-Audio added please? Most of them have a Video_TS as well as an Audio_TS so I would think it could be done - but am not a programmer so may be well off the mark here
Music DVD seems sketchy as well - certain titles just do not seem to appear (Rhino Quadio, for starters)
Good to know BD is also covered. |

In one case, the answer was exactly what you want, but perhaps you didn't recognize it. In the other case (Edit: answer was correct about DVD-Audio, according to Rules), but the "Nothing else ..." threw me. (1) Using custom collections, YOU CAN in fact make separate collections within the same database for the three categories you mentioned. You can do this literally in minutes. Go back and read the answer for details on how, but the bottom line is YES. (2) You can use DVD Profiler to catalog any DVD. Period. In fact you can use DVD Profiler for anything you want, but it was designed to catalogue DVDs and BDs. Now, there is an Online Database, user supported, that is a repository for approved submitted catalog entries. The Contribution Rules spell out in detail what is allowed to be submitted, and how to do it. But so long as you don't care about submitting DVD catalog entries (profiles), you can catalog anything, and certainly any DVD, that you want. | | | Thanks for your support. | Posted: | | | | @mediadogg: the "Nothing else..." referred to the online central db in the previous sentence.
@neilwilkes: Music DVD's, even if there is little to see because of, for instance, a static picture, can be in the central db. No problem there.
The issue is, everything that is present in the online central db is uploaded by its user community. It is financially and practically impossible for Invelos to cater for that themselves. It also means that not everything that is or was available in retail (around the world!) is present. Some DVD profiler user has to obtain it and be willing to contribute it.
Most collectors here are movie and TV series fanatics, there is less emphasis on music DVD (and BR). So if a music title isn't present in the online db, it simply was never uploaded/contributed. If you have such a title, be the first to contribute it! There are enough threads to give guidance how to do it.
And FWIW, there are more categories poorly present: classical music DVD/BR, ballet DVD/BR. So there is room for expansion... | | | Eric

I tried to edit after I noticed my mistake, but I probably should have just deleted my whole post, rather than restating yours. Sorry about that. | | | Thanks for your support.
