| Posted: | | | | I have a disc with two movies and the overviews are in Portuguese. Should I post some sort of summary in English rather than in the original Portuguese or in addition to it, maybe in italics or bolded or both? | | | Steve Gauss |

If the overview is printed in multiple languages (such as Canadian releases that print in both French & English) you should use the language of the locality the release is from. | | | If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. -- Thorin Oakenshield |

But nah, that's too useful for the users. I disagree. Who really needs the overview in all languages? Would you like a spanish, french, german, italian translation (and possibly 50 others) on every US-Discs overview? It makes IMHO absolute sense to include only the language given on the backcover, as it mostly is the language of the actual release region. |

But nah, that's too useful for the users. So if they were allowed would you provide translations from the US overview into German, French, Italian etc for users buying in those countries? If it was a case of, say, a DVD with a US locality and the overview in Japanese (or whatever) I could see some reasonable argument for providing an optional translation into the language of the locality (presumably in a new field) but even then I'd love to see a Rule written to decide which of 2 or more translations is 'better' for contribution purposes and voting... it's asking for trouble before you start! | Posted: | | | | As most others said here... just the language that is on the case. To further support this... I have many Canadian releases that has both English and French on the case.... and even then we only use the one language that is used in that releases locality... Rules Quote: Quote: For multi-language cases, use only the language of the DVDs locality. which means for locality... Canada - We use English Only Same release in... Canada (Quebec) - We use French Only So when the rules state to use only one when there is more then one on the case.... why would we think we could use more then one when there is only one on the case? | | | Pete |

Although there are also localities for which multiple languages can be used in Overview. Belgium and Switzerland are prime examples. |

As long as they are coming from the cover I wouldn't mind. That was my assumption, yes. I was thinking of e.g. certain Benelux releases with overviews in both Dutch and French. When contributing for the Netherlands locality, you would submit just the Dutch overview, when contributing for the Belgium locality, you could include both languages. |

| Posted: | | | | The idea of choosing only one language based on locality when there are two available actually surprises me against the holy grail of rules: "copy[ing] the overview from the back of the DVD case exactly as written." What is the purpose of having to choose when they are on the back together. But then I guess someone would suggest, "The one based on locality should be on top" and someone else would say, "But idf you do that, then it doesn't match the back cover exactly." *dizzy* | | | If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

| Posted: | | | | @Blair: That idea should come as no surprise, given the fact that the Holy Rules also read: "For multi-language cases, use only the language of the DVDs locality.", as already quoted by Pete.
My only point was that in this line "the DVDs locality" can also imply "the languages" (plural). To cover multi-language localities such as Belgium and Switzerland, this particular rule should be reworded to read "For multi-language cases, use only the language(s) of the DVDs locality." |
