| Posted: | | | | I just got hold of a brand new Epson PX700W and I thought I should replace some erroneous covers with the proper ones. I'm fairly sure this is far from an unusual problem, so I thought I should ask if anyone have a good solution to it. As you can see from the image, where the cover is folded there will be areas of higher brightness. How do you deal with this? | | | TV set: SONY KDL-52NX800 BD/DVD-player: LG BH8220BN 5.1 Collection: 801+ |

| Posted: | | | | I have similar issues, one thing that helps is putting something heavy along the spine, I believe the lighter color comes from it being slightly raised. I have some glass coasters that seem to help out. | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800 BD/DVD: Oppo BDP-93 (Region Free) HD PVR: Motorola DXC3400 500GB w/ 1TB Expander BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii Remote: Logitech Harmony One w/ PS3 Adapter WHS: Acer H341 Windows Home Server |

| Posted: | | | | I cut a rectangle from a cardboard box and put it on top of the spine, and also put a little extra weight on the lid. It eliminated the problem! But now my scanner seems to be all confused and can't properly rotate the image. The rotate function in DVD Profiler is quite good, but I just can't seem to align the cover properly. I guess I can't have it all | | | TV set: SONY KDL-52NX800 BD/DVD-player: LG BH8220BN 5.1 Collection: 801+ |

I guess I can't have it all \ I use GIMP, its an open source free picture editing program. It's pretty easy to use, once you get the hang of it. I use it to rotate the image, crop it, use the white balance feature, and clean up any issues I had with the scan. | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800 BD/DVD: Oppo BDP-93 (Region Free) HD PVR: Motorola DXC3400 500GB w/ 1TB Expander BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii Remote: Logitech Harmony One w/ PS3 Adapter WHS: Acer H341 Windows Home Server |

| Posted: | | | | I slowly fold the spine against the original direction, thus undoing the fold without making new fold marks. Then I lay a big book on the cover on the scanner. The scanner lid is just excerting not enough pressure. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

That's what I do also. It definitely helps with these gutter shadows. Ditto. I always reverse fold it (just lightly so the folds aren't as bad) and then generally will either place a heavy book on the cover while scanning, or press down with quite a bit of pressure on top of the lid of my scanner. Pretty much does the trick each time. | | | The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play. |

| Posted: | | | | I tried to simply apply pressure to the lid, but it didn't seem like even that was enough, which is why i laid a small cardboard cut-out in between. Though, when I think of it I might not have had enough pressure. I'll definitely try a nice big book. About GIMP. I have it installed, but I find it heavy to use, as the most advanced software I've used over the years is MS Paint Once the smoke clears and most of the profiles I'm contributing atm shrinks I might have a go at it again. Would be nice to have an undo function instead of starting from scratch whenever I make a mistake in DVD Profiler! | | | TV set: SONY KDL-52NX800 BD/DVD-player: LG BH8220BN 5.1 Collection: 801+ |

When I still cared about cover scans I put them into a thick book first Forum Moderator: Removed image. No nudity please.and weighted it down with 10 kg (about 22 pounds). | Posted: | | | | You don't need to close the lid of the scanner - I put something with some weight to it on the cover and if the scanner lid doesn't close, so be it.
I also use GIMP because I'm a Linux user, but Paint.NET is definitely more user friendly than GIMP and will achieve the same results.

| Posted: | | | | I used to have gutter shadows when i tried to scan the whole jacket at once. I solved it by turning the jacket 90 degrees and scanning the front while part of the back hangs off the side of the scanner. Then i did the same for the back. Haven't had a gutter issue since.
No extra books or weight required. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! | | | Last edited: by tweeter |

I agree that this is the simplest way. It works very well. --------------- |

No extra books or weight required. I do it that way, too, but my scanner cover must be lighter than yours: I still have to apply gentle pressure--my hands, with splayed fingers--to flatten the cover to the glass. |

| Posted: | | | | I don't close the scanner when I scan covers. I place the cover on the scanner and place a piece of cardboard, that is bigger than the cover, on top and then a paper weight to press it down. I never close the cover. It's easier to make sure that the cover is lined up straight on the scanner with the cardboard. |

| Posted: | | | | I'm another one for not closing the scanner lid. For one thing it can move the insert.
I use an old Haynes manual with my old somewhat heavy external hard drive holding it down.
Some of the thicker covers you just can't use enough weight on. The folds don't disappear. That's where the above methods of reverse-folding and pressing the covers beforehand become involved. |

I use a book on top with the cover open, though I need a new scanner as mine is kaput. |
