| Posted: | | | | Quick question: does the "E.T. Eyes Design" credit qualify for inclusion in DVD Profiler's online database? Does it qualify for "Creature Design"?
I'm asking since the community seems to be divided: while 70 'E.T.' profiles include Carlo Rambaldi's "E.T. Created By" credit, only 18 profiles include this additional credit for Beverly Hoffman... |

| Posted: | | | | Personally, on this one, I think this comes down to the simple question of what constitutes a 'Creature'.
Is it the finished article or the sum of the parts?
If the credits was 'E.T. Toes Design' or 'E.T. Earlobe Design' would this question have been asked. Given T!M's attention to detail I would say yes, but, should it?
I come down firmly in the Finished Article camp because I think this could potentially lead to some very silly entries. Also, an ear, nose, eye, hair strand or finger alone do not a creature make.
A creature is a complete being.
The designers of the individual components are, to me at least, ensuring that the creature behaves in the way it should for the film - but the actual artistic creation that they are working from belongs to the principal designer - that being Carlo Rambaldi in this instance.
Also...in my 'Making of E.T.' book, it is only Carlo who is referred to as the Designer of E.T. | | | Last edited: by Pantheon |

| Posted: | | | | I agree as well, but these poll results don't exactly give me much ammunition to try and remove this entry (submitted by someone else) from my profile. Such simple yes-or-no questions really need to be settled somehow. With the userbase thoroughly divided on how these should be handled, these credits *do* make their way into the database, which will ensure it'll be copied further. Also, it's presence in a few profiles will send a message to the next person auditing such a profile, saying "ah, apparently these are valid crew entries as well". So if most of us feel that they don't belong, something's got to be done to ban them out. As always, I can live with the credit being "in" or "out" - I just want a consistent approach. Now, I've got two 'E.T.' profiles, one of which includes this credit, and one of them doesn't. Chances are I'll get voted down when I try to remove the credit from the first profile, but get voted down yet again when I try to add the credit to the second profile. It just doesn't work this way... |

| Posted: | | | | As much as I hate to say it.... the only way to really get any consistency into the database for stuff like this is to get Ken to make a decision one way or another. And we both know how often that happens. Plus as we both know there has been times he decided on no consistency over consistency as well. | | | Pete |

Also, I would put an explanation (akin to what I said above) in my notes to explain why I'm removing it. |
