Santa was early this year:

After an intensive testing period with my first self-built HTPC the new one is designed to be some general improvement.

Here it is:

Case: Thermaltake DH 202 Touch
MB: ASRock 970 Extreme 4 (THX-certified)
CPU: AMD FX 4100 (4X 3.60 GHz)
RAM: 8 Gig Corsair XMS3 DDR3-1600
HDD: WD 500 Gig RE4 (as usual)
SSD: AData XPG SX900 (64 Gig as system drive)
Graphics: NVidia 520 GT (passive cooling) 1024 MB RAM
BluRay: LG CH10LS28AUAR (Combo Drive)
TV-Card: Digital Devices Cine S2 6.0 (with CI-Module) HDTV Sat card
PSU: Thermaltake Smart Series Modular 80+ (550 Watts)
MediaCenter: MediaLab
BluRay software: PowerDVD 12 Ultra

A new speaker system was in it too: Logitech Z906 THX-certified

Can't wait for the parts to arrive now
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Looks good. I also have an HTPC with a front touch screen and so far, I really haven't utilized it since the HDTV is the main display. Based on your setup, it can also provide a visual distraction when watching movies.

If the CPU cooler turns out to be too loud, check out the closed-loop CPU liquid coolers. I have a double-fan on a 120mm radiator on mine and it works well - though you'll have to be able to run it through a gap in the back, likely through one of the fan outlets, and have it rest behind the case. If you do get one, use black electrical tape to seal any gaps between the fan and the radiator.

I'm running XBMC on my HTPC, the only drawback is that it can't read blu-ray discs. But since all my movies are on a NAS, that's okay for me.

Just curious... What kind of NAS are you using to fit all your movies?
Certainty of death...
Small chance of success...
What are we waiting for ?!

Probably one of these?

Xanthos R95A 9HE Server

This little cutie takes 48 HDDs or ~ 190 TB
Sadly it isn't exactly what I would call "affordable"

I'm using a standard tower case with 10 HDD bays. UNRAID can support another 13 drives but I'll need a new case if I decide to add more drives.
