I've been updating to Blu some titles using Best Buy swap deals, and before learning last night how to create and move old profiles (no longer in collection) to a new “Custom List” I 'removed from collection' many profiles I'd like to restore to keep track of past cost etc; I still have here an old backup created before deleting the profiles in question but I'm not sure how to do this without messing up my current DB.

First, backup your current database (preferably without overwriting the old backup file )

Then select File -> Restore Database -> Selected Profiles

This will restore the profiles you select.

But be warned, if that profile is still in your database, the restore will overwrite the data with the one from the backup file.

Thanks, I'm going to try this now on my other Profiler "Master" PC, but I just noticed during a dry run in this PC that since only the Profile name is visible when selecting individual titles to restore, I can't tell which version I'm restoring, in many cases I own many versions of the same titles collected through the years, and I'm swapping the older version DVDs, plus apparently the select display also includes titles from the 'Wish' list, where I used to keep track of better quality versions of DVD I own, but that I never bought....

I was hoping to be able to restore this old backup and then from within Profiler some how (tags?)pick the titles I need to restore, save them in a new backup and then restore to the newest DB. can I do this?

Just so I'm clear:

"Old Backup" is the one you already have with specific entries you want to move
"New Backup" is a backup that we are about to create
"Current Database" is the one you have already that you want to move the files into... the one Karsten initially told you to backup as a new file name.

Open the Old Backup (File -> Open Database). Flag each profile that you want to move by selecting it in the Collection List and pressing the spacebar. Then go to "File -> Backup Database" and under Options, select "Back up flagged entries only" and save as a New Backup under a different name.

Now, open your Current Database (File -> Open Database) and then go to "File -> Restore Database." Browse for and select the New Backup you just created that contains only the flagged profiles. Click Next. Click "Restore Specific Profiles" and then "Select All" (this keeps your Current Database intact unlike using the other option) and click "OK."

The two files have now been merged together.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

Blair, your method is exactly what I'm hoping to do, except that 'open data base' only allows .DAT files to open and my 'old backup' is saved in .DPB format. what am I missing?

I went ahead before your post and was able to restore the missing profiles I remember with the other method, but it was a bit more involved since I could not tell which DVD version I was restoring and had try several times for certain titles.

I still would like to learn how to make your method work, since I have other even older .DPB backups to check out for profiles I'm missing in current DB.

Choose File -> Open Database -> New Database and create a new empty one. Then restore your backup in there.

Thanks Karsten, that works, in all my years of using DVDP never played with these features much, always terrified of messing up the DB..

I found all the missing profiles, now I'm just trying to decide if I should get rid of all these different backups in my PC and just keep the last one from now on.. I usually backup with a new name instead of overwriting, but these DPB files with 'head-shots' are now close to a Gig in size.

Nothing wrong with keeping the backups for a while, at least until you check and double check to be sure everything is there exactly the way that you want it if for no other reason.

Yes Blair, I'll keep them for a while just in case, especially since I've been closely checking the collection data and found many old issues I'm fixing now.

Apparently when I first switched over to the latest DVDP full version a while back, a few of my titles didn't convert correctly to the new DVDP DB format (I think), something to do with 'short' Disc number ID (missing digits), luckily DVDP flagged most of those in a 'set' that I recently discovered (Flag-> load set) by accident and I've been downloading the new profiles (correct disc id) and moving over my 'personal' info from the old profile before removing from collection.

Also the same thing happened to many 'Box sets' 'child' discs, in this case DVDP uploaded the correct 'copy' of the 'child' (but left the old behind) so I have many doubles in Box sets with collection number I need to check before removing.

I remember about a year ago during install DVDP warning about errors during 'restore' process and with Box sets  and 'child' discs, but I didn't now exactly what to do or what was happening,

Let's see if I can finally fix all the issues with this DB and then maybe I'll get rid of the muti-backups to avoid future confusion..this sure takes lots of time to fix...
