| Posted: | | | | Hi there I had a computer crash (BSOD) and afterwards, none of the plugins seem to work. When I start DVD profiler I get the message "Configuration System Failed to Initialize" from the Database Query Plugin. I've tried all of the following (not in that order) : 1. Remove Plugins and Re-install 2. Remove DVD profiler and Re-install 3. Run check disk 4. Repair .Net Framework 2.0 , 3.0 ,3.5 and 4 5. Repair DVD profiler Database 6. Restore older backup to new database 7. Restore Previous Day Windows XP Registry (I've daily backups)
Some of the Plugins that do-not work : Bulk Edit , csv Export, Database Query
All of the them produce the same error: "Configuration System Failed to Initialize"
Another Example is "Cinematic Collection Viewer Plugin". Although I've re-installed it , it does not even appear on the DVD Profiler "View-Plugins" menu
Otherwise (apart from the plug-ins total failure) DVD Profiler seems to work fine
My OS is WIN XP x64.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks, |

| Posted: | | | | There is no good reason to update the windows registry independently of the programs that make changes to it, and are dependent on its contents, unless you are working with MS support IMHO. That virtually eliminates any opportunity to debug, and can lead to incompatibilities such as you are having. My recommendation is to avoid this practice in the future.
- You cannot run recently updated plugins with DVDP 3.7.2 - You cannot run plugins compiled for 3.8.0 on 3.8.1 - You can run 3.7.2 plugins on 3.8.2 - DVDP databases are not downward compatible
It sounds like you have made one or more of those mistakes, compounded by messing with the registry.
If it is possible to restore your system to a known working checkpoint, do it. Then perform a step by step upgrade of DVDP tp 3.8.1. All plugins should still work. Then upgrade selected plugins to pick up new functionality. And for goodness sakes, leave the registry alone. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. I'm pretty sure you're mistaken. All those actions I've done, where done after the problem appear and not before the problem.
The problem appreared out of the blue , after a computer crash (maybe it's a coincidence) .
All the actions that I made don't seem neither to worsen nor fix the problem. My Database version is 3.8.1. It was 3.8.1. before and after the error appreared (it has been upgraded weeks ago and everything was working perfectly) The database restore was made to a new database just for test reasons and reproduced the same problem So I believe the problem does have to do with the database itself
I'm pretty sure it's a System problem , but do not know where to look.
I haven't noticed similar problems to other software (so far !!). As far as the plugins versions, are you implying that those plugins are made for 3.8.0 and not 3.8.1.? That does not seem right , because all the plugins where working perfectly with 3.8.1
As far as the windows restore, It's not possible.
Any ideas? Anyone ?

One suggestion: reduce the number of variables. Start with clean install, NO plugins, blank database. What happens. If this does not work, you cannot proceed until you get the absolute basic environment working. If that does work, try adding a couple of DVDs manually. See if all OK. If all OK, try restoring a database - choose the selected profiles option, and select some or all. See what happens. If all OK, add the Invelos plugins only. If all OK, add another plugin, etc. We are hoping for your success. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. |

| Posted: | | | | I would also seek the advice of Invelos Support. Maybe they have seen a similar situation and can make a suggestion. So, if you didn't already , you could open a support ticket - even though you don't suspect an Invelos problem, I'm sure they would be willing to offer an idea. | | | Thanks for your support. | Posted: | | | | I'll try your method and let you know although I still believe it's neither a Data-related Issue nor a DVD-Profiler installation error. I'm pretty sure it's a system error.
As far as Invelos support, I contacted them but their answer was : "Unfortunately we don't have any information that would help. Please check with the plugin developer directly."
Not much Help I must say
Anyway , I l' ll let you know the results of your suggestion
Thanks again |

Not much Help I must say Unfortunately, because you started out by saying that it is a Plugin Error, there isn't much they will do as they have nothing to do with the plugins you mentioned. If/when you determine that it isn't a pluging error, they might be able to better help you. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. We are hoping for your success. 1. I uninstalled all plugins 2. started DVD profiler. No error (I knew that already, because , just disabling the addins was just enough to eliminate all errors 3. Created new database No errors 4. Added 1 dvd . No errors 5, Shutted Down DVD profiler 6. Installed 1 plugin (database query) 7. Started dvd profiler. Detected new plugin. At the end of the start - up process , when the Main screen loads , the same error appeared. http://www.sendspace.com/file/otrb65 |

I'll try your approach when I get home. I Hope I find the right Folder. Thanks |

| Posted: | | | | Coincidentally, we had the very same problem ("Configuration System Failed to Initialize") on one of our company computers today. It just did not want to start any .NET application using application settings.
Here's how we solved it:
Under
C:\WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG
this file was missing:
machine.config
Check, if it's there. If not, check if machine.config.default exists, make a copy and rename it to machine.config
If not, re-install Microsoft .NET 2.0 | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | DJ Doena : Followed your instruction I have both machine.config and machine.config.default in folders
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG and C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\CONFIG
TomGaines :
Searched in C:\Documents and Settings for the word Database or the Word Query Did not find anything
This is becoming really frustrating !!!! |

| Posted: | | | | Check what happens if you reinstall Microsoft Netframework 2.0 (as already suggested by DJDoena). Download from here: (X86)or here: (X64) | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | As I already stated earlier, I've already run a repair Installation on all .Net Frameworks (2.0,3.0,3.5,4.0) I also suspected from the beginning its a .Net Framework related error but know what else to check |
